Without going into too much detail of the original butterfly valve issue, I just wish to add my 'after service 'experience.

Picked up the car, to find it was out of petrol. Considering that when I booked it in, there was over 3/4 of a tank this left me a little annoyed. The Manager could not explain how this happened, but "would look into it."

As part of the butterfly valve 'band-aid' repair, the damaged IRIDIUM spark plug had to be replaced. This was done with with what appears to be a second hand normal NGK plug. Talk about dodgy.

I asked for a printout of the compression test, but they refused to supply one.

I asked for a printout regarding the fuel intake recall (which was done at the same time), but again they refused to give me any documenation.

This dealership is doing what is can to tarnish the Nissan name. No wonder the local mechanics are busy in Orange, no-one goes to the dealer.

Brett, can you get a couple of compression tests done by independent outsiders with documentation for future reference.
RACV/NRMA maybe for starters.
Praps a small workshop and a major dealership, not necessarily Nissan.
The more the better.

A dyno run theoretically should not be a problem for any engine as they have rev-limiter to prevent them revving into a dangerous level. An engine is designed to a certain rev limit where after reaching over that limit, greatly reduces the longevity of the engine. Theoretically you should be able to drive an engine to "redline" (rev limit) all the time, but I don't see anyone doing it. "Theoretically" the case should be the same for Brett, but if it did decide to explode while on the dyno, it would be no different to taking off at the lights and keeping your foot to the floor until redline, which is what he could say he did emoticon

They would have emptied your fuel to do the fuel filler recall. We were required to have the tank below half for them to perform the works. However, they should have put it back in for you!

As I(we) are learning about Nissan, what head office and the dealers tell you are sometimes different. But who is to blame and who tells the truth.

I wouldn't advise anyone go to Cessnock Nissan as they were hopeless when it cpome to fixing my Xy. I had an over heating problem and they tryed to fix the head gasket and then they broke the camshaft, the bolts that hold the head on to it.

That's unbelievable! Sounds like they let an apprentice loose on your X-Trail!

I hope you didn't pay for a cent for any of the work they carried out.

I'd be complaining to Nissan H/O about that if I were you.

Did they bother to check the coolant or flush the radiator to see if it was blocked by casting sand? Surely that would've been their first item to check, before stripping the engine to bits...
