My concern is they state that the warranty services cost more because more is done, so it seems that the fixed price service will not be "as per the manufacturers log book"

Re: Dealer Experience (The Good & Bad)

Three thumbs up for Lakeside Nissan (Adelaide) Again!!

I gave them a call yesterday to book in for my 40,000km service on the diesel dirt destroyer. Not only did they fit me in for the service today (early drop off at 730am so i can get to work) they lent me a Tiida which was very clean and ready to go.
I let them know that i only just had the air filter replaced at 30,000km and even though i had been to sydney and back to see if it needed replacing as per the schedule.
They told me that they had not had a diesel come through for the major 40,000km service yet so the lead mechanic would take care of it.

As promised Tim gave me a call prior to the 3pm agreed time and let me know it was ready to pick up. I felt really bad as the car was covered in mud from the weekends shenanagins, but Tim actually said it was good to see a car being used what its designed for.

I had recieved this letter earlier in the week which was a nice touch for the 12 month birthday. I picked up the present which was a big bottle of Nissan interior cleaner for leather etc.

Image

Tim explained the service in detail. The fuel filters are on back order all over the country (So if you are getting a major done on a diesel take note!) and as they could not source one from anywhere around the country he deducted the cost of the part and labour from the bill and put a note in the system that it would be installed next service. That is awesome, any other dealer might be tempted to just say they did it and you probably wouldnt have known! He also said that if im passing by and have some time to kill to call and see if they have time to fit it. Now thats service! As i had mentioned the air filter, they kept the old air filter and put it in the car so i could see how dirty it was.

I asked about the exhaust valve timing that is mentioned in the service guide, Tim actually got the lead mechanic to come out and explain how they do it (when its required). It wasnt required on mine which is good.

I also met the sales guy (Mark) who sold me the car, i let him know how happy i am with the car and that everything is going well.

If someone from Nissan HQ is reading this you should take note that everytime i go to Lakeside nissan for my servicing (ive been going there for 4 years now with my x-trails) the guys there are doing an awesome job. They are friendly and professional and make you feel welcome. I highly recommend them to anyone in Adelaide to buy and service your Nissan.

The car is running better than the day i bought it, smooth and powerful.

Note that i do not work for Lakeside Nissan, or receive anything from them for my comments. This is genuine happy customer feedback.

Andrew,

Are you sure the fuel filter needs changing at 40,000kms service? sounds a bit strange as Nissan claims the fuel filter should last a fair bit more than that.

Re: Dealer Experience (The Good & Bad)

Howdy Jalal,

Yep ive just checked the service manual and on page M-21 it says that the fuel filter needs to be changed on the diesel engine at 40,000km. It also needs to be changed on the petrol engine. This is for normal driving conditions, not severe.
Interestingly the following items also get replaced at the 40,000km service:

Air Filter
Engine Oil and filter
PVC Filter (Petrol Engines only)
Spark plugs (Petrol Engines only)
Adjust intake and exhaust valve clearance (Diesel only)
Replace air cleaner filter including pre-air cleaner filter (diesel only)
Replace brake fluid
Replace LSD oil
Lube all doors, locks, hinges etc
Replace air conditioner filter
Replace automatic transmission fluid
Replace Diff oil (non LSD)
Tighten body mountings
Tighten rear body bolts and nuts
Lube Axle joins
Replace transfer case oil
Lube prop shafts
replace front wheel bearing grease

There is a heap of other stuff that gets inspected and checked also, no wonder its an expensive service!

Sorry Andrew, I have to correct you on a few things.
The hanbook that we have covers a multitude of vehicles including, Patrol, Navara and some overseas models.

On the petrol engine, the in tank filter doesn't get changed. I don't know if there is another filter in the Australian version.

The conventional spark plugs are the ones replaced. We have the Platinum plugs in the petrol engine which only need to be replaced at 100 000kms.

They only tighten the body mounts on Navara D22, D40 and Y61 Patrol.(4X4)

"Tighten rear body bolts and nuts" only on wooden bed models" (utes)

"Replace transfer case oil" and "Lube prop shafts"
are only for D22 Navara and Y61 Patrol.

Re: Dealer Experience (The Good & Bad)

That is correct Tony, that is the reason I asked about the replacement of the in-tank fuel filter as there are no other fuel filters on the xtrail (T30 and T31)

The x-trail specific service schedule is displayed on our site HERE and it tells you exactly what needs replacing and checking as part of all services (including the 40K service)

Re: Dealer Experience (The Good & Bad)

That service guide linked above appears to be for the T30 X-Trail and has no reference to Diesel models or specific servicing. It only has Petrol engine details and the photo is of a T30.

In the T31 service manual in the 40,000km section under Diesel Engines, it says "Replace Fuel filter" with no caveat to which model Diesel engine it is restricted to. Other parts of the service guide refer to certain engines or models but there is no reference to this in the "replace fuel filter" line.

In the Gasoline engine section it says "Replace fuel filter (Except in-tank type filter)" but thats in the gasoline engine section.

I just rang Nissan and they confirmed that the Diesel should have its fuel filter changed at 40,000km intervals. Speaking with the service manager he was saying he used to work at Toyota and they replaced the diesel fuel filters at 20,000km intervals.

Yes its different for the petrol engines.

As mine was not changed due to no stock available (even overnight from Melbourne) they have one on order and will fit it while i wait when it comes in. He was saying especially if you do country driving and get fuel from outside newer servos you should change the fuel filter. Im guessing it has another (non fuel tank) filter.

Tony - you are right about those bolts, they are for navaras etc.

Re: Dealer Experience (The Good & Bad)

I know we should be discussing this in the T31 servicing section, but I just thought I'd mention that the xtrail service schedule displayed on our website is applicable to the T30 and T31 petrol models. I have not come across a T31 diesel specific service schedule as yet.

Re: Dealer Experience (The Good & Bad)

Jalal,

When i go in to get this filter replaced i will show them the petrol one from the links and ask them if they have access to a diesel service guide for the Diesel model, ill send it to you to upload for everyone. In case you dont come across one in the meantime.

Back on Dealer servicing, i was informed during the call to Nissan that they have an interesting parts ordering system. Basically they try and keep stock of all of the high volume items such as filters, oils, common replacement items for the different models. When you book your car in to be serviced the computer system works out what consumables are required for that service, and what is in stock. If something is required that isnt in stock it is ordered from their upstream supplier (usually overnight express). For Adelaide this is Melbourne. If the upstream supplier doesnt have it (as in my case, they had not had a diesel x-trail have a 40,000km service yet) it goes onto backorder until it can be filled from another source. The service manager at Lakeside (Craig) is ordering a few spares now to keep in stock so when the next x-trail comes in for its 40,000km service they will have a filter ready to go.
In honesty i did only book my car in for the service with less than 24hours notice so maybe that isnt enough time to source a non stocked part from Sydney, or an external supplier etc?

Im not really fussed, it will get replaced when it comes in. Thanks to Craig for explaining this to me, hopefully you guys find it interesting! emoticon

I thought that the new owners would have sorted this out by now, but no, still the same old incompetant Nepean motor Group.

Actually as most of the old staff have gone its actually a new incompetent Nepean motor Group. I had first hand experience on Wednesday when I took Phillipa's exy back to have the faulty gear knob replaced (they had to order it in) - a 30 second job. While I was waiting (2nd car in the drive in queue) the 2 service advisors were dealing with the one customer and fortunately the guy who drives the courtesy bus came up and asked me if I needed to be dropped off (yes I did) and he waited. Service guy had the wrong description of the work to be done and then told me that it would take at hour to do my 30 second job so I left the vehicle with him.

4 hours later they ring to tell me the job has been done. and when I returned in the afternoon, after the wonderful bus guy picked me up, the same peanut of a service advisor tells me when I get the paperwork "we got it done quicly -its onlt a 30 second job" - oh well at least it was free!

Being that the parts department is just around the corner I thought I'd check out the sot of a combination switch for the Navara, $148-10 at every other dealer I checked with, $30 more at Nepean, but they did have 1 in stock - oh well at least I know what the part I ordered from Lander will look like!

Memo to NMG management - take a ride in you bus with the guy who drove it on Wednesday - this is what quality customer service is all about - get him to teach the rest.
You'd think that a dealership financed by Nick Politis would have some idea how to treat customers, but maybe he's had the Roosters players out there on work experience!
