Non Nissan servicing costs (T30 & T31)

Hi there,

I was wondering if I am able to service my exy at my own mechanic (Non Nissan) and still have my new car warranty honored?? The Nissan dealer I am buying the exy from is giving me a 6year/175000km warranty on a new STS. If my mechanic uses genuine Nissan parts and I adhere to the service schedule then is this ok??

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank's.

Re: Non Nissan servicing??

Hi Crue,

There are 2 type of warranties on offer here, one of them is the Nissan Australia warranty which is 3 years or 60,000kms (whichever comes first) and the other is the dealer extended warranty which locks you to servicing the car at that particular dealer only and if services elsewhere will be void, this dealer warranty is not worth anything and you will find that you will save lost of $$$ if you service your car at another Nissan dealer (a cheaper one) or at any independent mechanic workshop that uses Genuine Nissan parts for the duration of the manufacturers warranty term.

The 3 year, 60K Nissan Australia warranty is the one you need to worry about and protect, not the dealer one.

Not all mechanics have access to Consult II or a diagnostic tool that plugs into the ECU, so it is advisable to still have the major services done at the dealers.

The major services are detailed in the Service Schedule on our Technical Page and they're: 20K, 40K, 60K, 80K and 100K

Re: Non Nissan servicing??

hi there,
today i serviced my exy at midas for the first time.i got the exys diff oil changed the power steering fluid and brake fluid.i supplied the correct fluids and oil and got charged $120.00 and i got to watch and talk with the mechanic.very helpful in answering questions.the diff oil was surprisingly clean after the 40,000km service.now im up to 90,000.i got told by the manager that in a couple of months that they are getting the nissan consult computer and got told it will work on the x-trail to check codes etc.i am happy with midas. emoticon

Re: Non Nissan servicing??

My car is coming up for it's big 80,000km service. Is it really necessary for Nissan to do this service. Apart from running the standard diagnostic test via the consult, do they do anything 'special'.

A mate has given me all the required fluids, so my service will be cheaper, especially with me doing the engine oil/filter, K&N air filter and Iridium plugs beforehand.

I have had my vehicle regularly serviced at UltraTune and I am very happy with their service. My rapport with my local Nissan dealer is very strained, hence my reason for not wanting to go there.

Re: Non Nissan servicing??

I'd take it to Bathurst in your case Brett and yes, the major service is an important one and better done at the dealer as there could be software updates which they will push out to your ECU which Ultratune won't have.

Also, the 80K service will include the radiator flush and coolant replacement as well diff oil replacement and you better be sure that is done correctly, especially the radiator flush and what type of coolant being used.

Your new engine is still under warranty I believe, so look after it.

Brett, you mentioned you've already got all the lubricants etc. If you hand those over to Bathurst Nissan, you might find the total cost of the service is less than half the counter-displayed price emoticon

At least try and talk them into giving you a heavily discounted price because of the hassles you've experienced in the past with Nissan in general emoticon

Thanks mate, forgot about the software updates.

I am not sure whether Nissan would allow me to supply the oils. I might be better off getting all the fluids replaced, including the Nissan coolant at Ultratune to save $$$ and then taking it to Nissan for an ECU check and upgrade if required via the consult.

Jalal, any idea whether Nissan would be prepared to hook up the consult and check the diagnostics for the right price.

I'm not sure how your dealer operates there, but it can be done if you ask them for an ECU re-set and while they're doing that ask them to run diagnostics emoticon

Nissan does allow the supply of your own oil, but they won't accept another brand of coolant or diff oil. Only engine oil is allowed I think.

My 80K service cost me $349.00 and I supplied the spark plugs, engine oil and oil filter.
