Andrew,

So, how much did the 40K service cost you?

Yep my 40k service was quite expensive too up around the mark that fangios quoted. I saw the price of the Patrol and Navara/Pathfinder major services and nearly fell over.

My justification for always going to Lakeside Nissan is that i know that they will do it right the first time as they are trained on working on these specific cars, and if they make a mistake they will fix it straight away with no hassles. I can also trust the dealer that i go to which is important, they have looked after me in the past and my risk analysis tells me to stick with them emoticon They are very transparent about their processes and have no problems showing you the service area, the parts used and letting you speak with the mechanic who did the work which is reassuring for the customer, and confidence building for the mechanic.

Especially with this diesel model, saving a few hundred going somewhere else would cost more than that to get a regen done, and with Nissan having the ConsultII they are the only people who can test and adjust the ECU / upload new firmware.

It would cost me alot more in wasted time if my car doesn't work. Im not saying all dealerships are the same and by reading some of the posts from people having bad experiences i can see why you wouldn't trust your car in some of the country dealerships, i guess we have it lucky here emoticon

I agree with you, I use my vehicle for work and need it to be reliable (which it has been) and have been willing with past vehicles to pay the extra premium for dealer service. But this is getting out of hand.
After having a discussion with the service manager he has offered me trade price for any further servicing, plus the option to use non genuine parts if i wish. I still feel though that it is time to go somewhere else, unless i actually have a problem with the car.
Its a shame because it takes the gloss off the ownership experience of what is other wise a good car.
My service costs are so far much higher than previous Magnas and Commodores I have owned, and they really shouldn't be, especially considering that only oils and filters have ever been replaced in the car so far.

Fair enough but no matter where you take it someone else will rip you off and I am sticking to dealership services as when I come to sell it or trade it they know the history of it and know that the car was regularly serviced.

I have heard of things going wrong everywhere but at least at the dealership they have to take the responsibility for it I feel.

Magna's and commodores are much different to X-trails and the X-trail has all the other stuff like the I mode and electrical s to look after .

I would not take my car to this dealer again after a suggestion like that.
Being a new diesel, it would still be under manufacturer's warranty and if a fault did develop and non-genuine parts found, there would surely be an argument about voiding the warranty with the non-genuine parts.
I find this suggestion by the service manager totally unbelievable emoticon

Re: NISSAN Service Costs Comparison T31 X-Trail

A point often lost when making comparisions between dealer and non-dealer servicing are the inherent overheads the dealer has to incur to be allowed to service the vehicles including specific equipment/tools and above all technician training.

I am not involved in any dealership or the motor industry but could quite rightly justify dealer pricing provided it is not excessive. I have always asked and received discount service pricing once the dealer knows I am not going to 'shop around'.

Hi John,

What you're saying is true to some extent, but when there is a huge price gap difference between 2 authorized Nissan dealers who are only one suburb apart from each other and who both have these overheads and technical staff training to account for, it becomes a very suspicious exercise and one has to wonder how Nissan Australia can justify such a huge difference in pricing of their dealers network/s.

This is not to mention the smalls towns and villages where there is one dealer only and it becomes like a monopoly with them setting any price they want due to no competition.

Re: NISSAN Service Costs Comparison T31 X-Trail

Just got my T31 Ti back from Westco Nissan in Cairns. I asked them to do the 50k service when the transmission was replaced under warranty. The service manager thought it would cost about $280, it was actually a little over $230.
I believe that with Nissan trained mechanics, Nissan parts, a replacement car (Tiida with <3k on the clock), software checks, etc, it is worth it. I'll be going back.

Chris

Just had 20k petrol T31 sevice done at Hornsby Nissan ..... $315.00 . Just for interest rang 2 other dealers .......... $370.00 and $385. Ultratune quote $255.00 I was amazed when I asked Nissan dealer how much for 20k diesel service he said add $200. He said the diesels use special oils. Could have knocked me over with a feather.
