STOCKTON BEACH 2008 (Trip Report)

What an awesome trip this was!!!

We had 12 xtrails and Matt in his BT50 as our convoy leader on the day:

Image

We all met at Anna Bay at around 9:45am and after intros, name-tag allocations and safety tips, we headed to the Anna Bay entrance where we let our tyres pressure down (mine was 14psi on the day)

Image Image Image

Then we all set off with Matt leading the convoy and I was at the tail of convoy.

Some puddle crossing and the chrome exy with the CAI handled it all well again.

Image Image Image

Image Image

We stopped for a quick chat soon after and Leonie introduced us to Boris LOL emoticon

Image

Got a shot of the rainbow on the way too

Image Image

We arrived at Tin City soon after tackling some small sand dunes and going through soft patches of sand (most of us stayed in AUTO mode throughout the trip)

Image Image Image

Image Image

We then set-off to see the Ship Wreck and had a quick lunch near it as well.

Image Image Image Image

The BT50 proved to be an excellent forum recovery vehicle, but it also served another purpose LOL emoticon

Image

Sausages were on special today! emoticon

After the Ship Wreck we headed towards more serious fun and much more serious sand dunes and this is when someone that previously mentioned would NOT get stuck....errr....did LOL emoticon

And guess who recovered our recovery vehicle? emoticon

Image Image Image

After Matt showed us how it's done in the BT50, the rest of the guys gained confidence and we claimed this dune as ours LOL emoticon

The kids were over the moon too which was nice to see, They just loved it and were laughing non-stop

Image Image Image

The weather held up, but it was VERY windy indeed and I got a major headache driving back to Sydney because of this wind LOL emoticon

But as with all previous trips, it was excellent to meet the old and new members of our forum and this is what it's all about....having fun with family and friends!

Well done guys and thanks for coming. I hope you enjoyed it.

No....here's one of Matt.....buried on the crest of a hill....LOL

Image

Don't worry....I'm sure someone got one of me buried up to the axles and getting towed out by Matt's BT50. Quite a few of us were saved by him today. Matt was GREAT!!!! He really did the job for us today. Thanks heaps.

It was a great day in the sand. Shame it was so windy and cold. My wife says sorry to everyone for being a bit anti-social....the cold was too much for her. I was pretty frustrated when my 4WD system was the only one to cut out, but a few psi down in the tyres and things were fine for the rest of the day. I have quite a few pics, but they may be doubles of others already being loaded up.

My highlight.....when we were tackling that last big dune and the 2 landcruisers were getting stuck. Seeing 3 Exy's blast past and do the same hill with ease was GREAT!!!! Andre's call on the radio as he whizzed past was priceless....."bye bye Landcruiser....." emoticon

Looks like the sand was a bit soft on the top of the dune for you Matt.

Here lies one of the advantages of the Xtrail though it lacks low-range. It is lighter than most larger 4WDs so it just skips over the top rather than ploughing through like the landcruisers emoticon

Looks like you all had fun even with the wind and cold.
Would have loved to be with you and look forward to the next trip up there.

Jalal, what is my prize for guessing the "secret" ?

What a great day!

It was graet to see such a convoy cruising along the beach. It was just a shame that the weather was so average.

The high light of my day was seeing 12 exy exit through lavis lane, You should be very proud, it no easy feat. See, ive been saying for ages that Lavis is doable but everyone doubted me!

Thanx to everyone that came out to make this such a great day!

oh yeah, I had a feeling that everyone would be quick to post pics of the BT stuck!....... umm thanx!

the sand was soft all the way up, but the problem was that it was a bit to steep that the long wheel base of the BT caused me to piviot on the top, oh time to order that lift kit!

Would you say the quality of the sand on Lavis Lane was as it normally is or a bit firmer with the weather ?

It was a little bit firmer, but just as bumpy. Im still confident that everyone would have got through if it was softer. Ever since NPWS took over the maintance of stockton, Lavis lane has been kept in very good condition

Re: STOCKTON BEACH 2008 (Trip Report)

Washed the exy today at the local car lovers and a ton of sand come out from everywhere, including the interior. With 2 kids at the back it was like a sand pit LOL emoticon

Those of you with the bash plate must apply high pressure water into the openings of the bash plate and you would see how much sand would come out from the rear side of the bash plate. Don't leave this sand sitting there guys. It will cause some serious rust issues if left there for long....and yep Alex, this applies to you as well as I don't think the laps you have done at Stockton in that little lake would have cleaned everything LOL emoticon

We were standing and watching you doing the laps trying to clean the mud off the exy from your previous adventure and at one stage we thought that the shampoo would come out and you would take a bath yourself in there. hehehehehe emoticon

P.S. I didn't find any difficulty in the Lavis Lane exit, but I believe it was mainly due to the sand being compacted pretty well at the start of the exit, the rest of the exist was pretty much compacted and firm mud. The kids loved the horse-like ride on the way out and were laughing their head off. emoticon
