NSW Forum trek Hunter Range Nov 08
Hi Guys,
Well, it feels good to be able to finally tick the Hunter Range trek off my to do list. It turned out to be a much better track than I'd hoped....and a few of us got to share it. I know a lot of photos were taken, so I won't add too many at this stage.
We met up in the gloom of an early morning at Putty and looked towards the grey sky...and wondered. In the end, we decided it wasn't going to rain (it didn't) and so six X Trails, a SWB Patrol (although double timing as a Ford) and a Land Cruiser headed off. Inadvertently, we managed to arrange it so we had 3 T30s and 3 T31s. The first half of the trek is pretty easy, and it gave the newbies a chance to get a feel for the dirt and their cars. Zhivan did a superb job leading from the front, though it must be said, he did take one wrong turn and he didn't bring his Exy
Come lunchtime, we made it to the Sheepskin Hut and took a break from the dust.
Having fed and watered (and signed the Sheepskin Hut visitors book - complete with the Forum web address!!!!) some of the lads went exploring to look for a challenge. We found a short little downhill track that wound down to a swamp.
A few of us gave the track a go.....
Even Harish, one of our Newbies took up the challenge....and did it in style.
After that it was onto the more difficult section of the main track. Commission Road was the bit we knew would be the most fun and provide the most challenges. It did.....
I'm pleased to report, we all made it through with flying colours, not a scrape or an incident!!! A few of us are already thinking about tackling the road the other way....making the climb up the rough stuff.
Anyway....all in all.. a great day. Thanks to everyone who attended. Feel free to add your pics and comments. Special thanks to Zhivan for leading and not getting us too
Thanks to Chris for the idea in the first place!!! Looking forward to the next one already.

Gees Dave
You don't muck around.
I rekon you just got home and got busy with the computer.
Good write up, it was a good (dusty) day although a lot easier driving than I expected.
The last bit on Commision Rd was enjoyable.
I tried a lot of different things today and have a better understanding of what the Exy can do.
One word of advice to all." CLEAN YOUR AIR FILTER" mine was chockas with red dust.
To everyone who turned up today, thankyou for an enjoyable day.
Tony

Rich,
Sheepskin Hut (our lunch pit stop) is a top venue for a birthday party, so don't use that old excuse

Good stuff guys, am happy to see that you all enjoyed the trip.
Excellent pics too
Another one for the NSW trips tally and the State challenge
Dave, you can do the honors and add this trip under the state challenge thread
Yes Chris, in Europe they call it the RFL (Rear Fog Light), Downunder we call it the RDL (Rear Dust Light) and I have used it a lot in such conditions

Dave wrote quote: Just checked my filter and it wasn't too bad.
Thats because you spent the trip near the front of the convoy, my engine is orange never mind the filter. LOL
Im sooo glad I swapped the k&N for the stock filter before we hit the dirt.

A very wise decision of course. The K&N is better kept for on-road fun.
