Condamine Gorge Wendy and myself decided to take a run thru to Condamine Gorge on Saturday 10/10/09.
Left home around 9ish and decided to head for Beuadesert and then Boonah.
When we got to Boonah had to stop for a comfort stop and to start the camera clicking
We started the trip meter and we were on our way.
Half way up we realized that the road we were traveling we had done heaps of times before but in the other direction.
Although the climb was steep the exy handled it with ease.
Here are a few shots of the view from the top
From here we continued our way to Carr's look out and Spring Creek cafe and cabins .
Stopped at the cafe and had a coffee and Wendy fell in love with the view and the surrounds so we booked a cabin for one night on the 31st October for her birthday getaway.
This cafe is a great place to catch up and have a coffee and a light snack and the people are very happy to help.
This is where we learnt some very interesting facts.
The Condamine Gorge road is surrounded on both sides with private property and is only a dry weather road only as the locals that live there need to transport themselves and their livestock out even when it rains.
I did read a forum online that stated the local council filled the bottom of the creek beds with blue gravel chips so the softroaders could go thru but this is not the case as the council filled these creek crossings for the farmers to get the livestock out.
So it pays to chat with the locals.
Apparently they had quite a few bigger 4x4 s go thru last Easter and really made a mess of the road and was just about unusable for the locals and the council had to wait till last week for the funds to fix it up again.
When we got going again we came to the first crossing and crossed with not a problem.
All the crossings were quite easy and not challenging at all but very rocky.
We did find at one crossing to pull up and have lunch beside the road and creek.
Here is one shot looking at the cliff face
We also found a old bridge to one side of the road and I just had to go and have a look
From here we decided to head for home but along the way we have crossed off a few more red lines on the map (dirt roads)
It was a very simple drive to do but I would caution not to do it in the wet as the creeks rise rapidly .
