blower fan
Hi guys I am new to the forum and hope you can answer my first glitch with the xtrail.
My int blower fan is stuck on FLATOUT! I cannot lower the speed so I had to remove the 2 fuses to stop it totaly.....And with the riad comming down in Sydney right now I really could use the a/c to clear up the window.
anyway thank you in advance for anyone that might be able to help me.
Oh btw 2001 STI model

Re: blower fan
Hi mate,
It seems that your fan selector switch may have melted or short circuited.
This has happened before to a member of our forum and you can read about it HERE
I would advise that you take a closer look at the fan speed selector switch to see if it has fried or not.
Since the fan itself is stuck on one speed, it should be working fine, so it the fan speed switch that must be causing the problem.

Re: blower fan
Ah I may be able to help here for a change!
It's one of two things;
If you can only get the fan to work on the 4th speed setting (i.e. the switch will not work for 1, 2 and 3) then your resistor board (may be known as temperature controller)is faulty or simply broken. The resistor board is used for 1,2 and 3 speeds and is simply a bunch of resistors to drop the voltage supplied to the fan. The fourth speed setting drops all 12V on the fan. Incidently, this is a flaw in the design because there should be a relay in there to prevent the huge current drop on the switch which could cause it to burn out which leads to the second possibility...
The switch has burnt out, which is all detailed in the link Jalal posted above.
A simply test to see what problem you have is to put the fan on speed 1 and see if it works, then 2, then 3 and then 4. If it only works for 4, you have the first problem. If it just works on full the whole time, no matter what position it is in, stop using it immediately! The switch has burnt out and is taking the full load which could end up disastrous for your wiring. If you can't get it off, belt it (worked for me) or simply pull out the fuse for the blower motor.
I MIGHT have a spare temperture controller board which I purchased through a wrecker while I was fault finding mine. Check with Nissan to see what prices they offer. Otherwise, send me a PM if you need it!
The switch will set you back roughly $120 unless you have a family member or friend who can get it at trade prices... I ended up getting it for $80.
Hope it helps!
Edit: Sorry, in my excitement at the possibility of being useful I didn't read your original post fully You definitely have a problem with the switch. As in the link, you will need to get that back portion of the switch from Nissan (or a wrecker). It is a very easy job to replace it - and I know this because I did it myself and I'm by no means handy in any sense of the word.

Re: blower fan
Hi,you fellows, first fault with the x-trail .Blower switch will not work on speed 2 setting.Pulled out resistor bank and sure enough speed 2 resistor is open circuit.Shock horror quoted price from Nissan latrobe valley $204.36.I thought this was very high.I had a look and are going to do a quick fix for now. This resistor board also has a thermister on it (thermal switch)and if that opened it could explain why Xtrail blower fan would only go flat out,as the resistor speed bank would be open circuit.Any body got a spare resistor bank out there. What a rip off cheers

Re: blower fan
Have you tried any wreckers? Don't tell them Nissan's price before you buy it from them
Our fan played up the other day, so I hope ours isn't also on it's way out. Without changing anything, on setting 2 or 3 (can't remember which one) all of a sudden it got alot louder and more forceful. I thought perhaps it might've failed, but checked each speed and they all had different speeds, so I'm at a loss as to what it was. The only thing I can think of that it might've been was possibly the change in voltage caused by the A/C cutting in or out. I can't remember if we were sitting at traffic lights or moving. I'll have to keep an eye on the electricals in case either the alternator or battery are on their way out (which is a different topic, sorry).

Re: blower fan
Hi basshead the parts fellow quoted me $254.00 first time and when i said WHAT?he dropped the price to $204.00,talk about flexible pricing.I said i can buy a good DVD player for that money, can you check again,no mate thats it.I gather from what he said they sell a few of them. All it comprises of is a bit of board with three ribbon strips of flat resistance wire like toaster elements and a thermister. No wreckers around where i live,so in the hands of the thieves.I think i can do a fix,i hope.I run the A/C on 2 setting most of the time, and if it is not cold enough use 3 .Vechicle has done 110k/s so some others might face the same problem.cheers

Re: blower fan
I have not got that information, but would say blower fan resistor (speed control)cheers Jalal
Also found my dash rattle,a piece of plastic covering that clips around some piping behind centre console was not clipped in.I would say never been clipped in as it let out a audible click when i pushed it and is now very tight. Some good come out of the problem.cheers
