Re: blower fan
I lost the 2nd speed about 4 months ago. Then last week I lost the 1st and 3rd speeds as well. Pulled the resistor out and there are 2 burnt tracks. I got a mate to solder some wire across the gaps. It took 90min as the resistor wire did not readily accept solder. Lots of fiddling. If I had been able to find a second hand one for $25 that would have been a better option. Lets see how long it lasts.

Re: blower fan
You will probably find there was a coating on the resistor wire which needed to be stripped back so that bare metal could be soldered.
Soldering plain wire instead of resistive wire will change the resistance slightly so you might notice a different speed (little higher) than it usually was and it might draw different current. Should not blow the fuse though as that would be rated for full speed which I think is just 12V across the plain motor winding resistance.

Re: blower fan
Thanks Kev, but we did scrape the lacquer off and get back to bare wire.
I did not notice a change in fan speed even though there was one break which had a 4cm piece of wire bridging it (this was because we kept having to bare new wire to try and find a bit that would take solder). Logically there must have been a change in speed but I havn't noticed it.

Re: blower fan
My fan is still working, although I don't put it up to 4 very often nor for very long. Haven't heard the rattling since Darwin. Maybe it was a leaf after all and it's disintegrated. Hope hope hope.

Re: blower fan
Hi guys,
Continuing on from the other thread (which I apologise for creating when this one was already going) I have just pulled the blower motor amp out or as it is better referred to as Ti Blower Fan Resister part number: 27761-2Y000 (thanks Jalal and Kev) and the plastic looked a bit burnt and the tiny circuit board has burnt looking gunk on it, looks like it overheated or short circuited. The resistors look in tact but when they blow do they crack or can the damage not be so easily visible? I'm guessing since theres burnt looking bits that this is the problem?
Basically, for those who didn't read the other thread, my blower motor keeps running at full even when the heater control unit is disconnected. I have the climate control version.
Thanks
Zel

Re: blower fan
Just an update. My mate's fixing of my blown resistor lasted just one month. As of today i only have the 4th speed (the one that bypasses the resistor). Now, if only those wreckers would return my calls!

Re: blower fan
I'm one of the lucky ones. The fan started playing up again a couple weeks ago, creating a heavy vibration I could feel thru my feet.
Thinking the worst, I finally fronted up at my local dealer (Chano Trentin, Atherton) yesterday, to book a slot to have it fixed early next month. The man behind the service desk said lets have a look it's probably leaves, and they cleaned them out for me **free of charge** while I waited.
My aircon now works better than it has in years, delightfully cold for this Far Northern climate.

Re: blower fan
My fan blower stopped working yesterday morning, thought it was the fuse but all OK, I then read about these Fan Control Amps, I have a Mk1 xt with the climate control, I did some checks as per the xt manual and found the Fan Control Amp not working as it should.
I stumbled across this link which I have found very usefull and although my Amp is slightly different in design, mine is like a credit card top and a eliptic flange, the circuit board inside is exactly the same.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/433421-how-to-fix-your-fan-control-amplifier
On testing my board I found the Thermal Cutout to be broken, no continuity across the poles. I have ordered the recommended replacement from USA (I am in UK) at a cost of £14GBP, Nissan want £138.22GBP for replacement Amp.
I have in the mean time, got my spare car battery and wired it through a switch and fuse directly to the fan motor as my xt seems to mist up inside very easy on these damp cold mornings. This works great..........
I will let you know how I go on.

Re: blower fan
Excellent link. Thanks Mark.
I doubt there will be many members with the electronic skills to tackle this, but as I am one who could, maybe when we get a "sample" for testing this repair I could offer my services if needed.
