Driver's seat in T31

Hi,

I have just purchased a new T31-ST and find the driver's seat very uncomfortable for my lower back. I have never had an issue with any car seat before in 30 years of driving, and test drove two T31s for reasonable periods prior to purchasing one and didn't notice any issue. I have fiddled with the seat height, the reclining arm and the lumbar adjustment and no combination will help my aching back. A journey to work of 30 mins is enough for me. To me, the passenger seat seems alot more comfortable.

Has anyone else noticed this or have any suggestions for correcting the problem? Maybe I have a dud driver's seat (if that is possible)?

Cheers

Hi Gazza,

I usually find that a seat 'gives' and conforms to your body better after a few weeks. The padding material can be quite firm to begin with.

Give it a few weeks then assess whether or not you can put up with it. Get a family member to drive the car and see if they complain of the same issue.

If all else fails you could get a re-trimmer to rebuild the seat to your taste. You will find that it is not as expensive as you thought.

I am getting leather fitted at Doyles Leather at Artarmon (www.doylesleather.com.au) this week on my new T31. All up $1,980

Hi stackator,

Thanks for the comments. How does the airbag situation go when you replace the seats?

Cheers

Hey Gazza,

When I enquired a lot of the upholsterers would not touch seats with side curtain airbags in case they discharged. Doyles Leather does Merc, Beemers, Subi, Porsche with side curtain airbags - they said no problem!

Hi,

Thanks for the info re the airbags. As you said, the seat is now more comfortable after a month of it comforming to my rear end shape. Also I tilted it back some more and lowered it which seems to have improved things alot.

Has anyone found any comfy seat covers or insets that are ok on these airbag seats?

Cheers

Hi Zhivan,

Can you please post pics of your leather seats to show the guys the quality compared to the factory leather? Also, have you asked them to do the doors and centre arm-rest in leather too?

How long did it take them to do?

Re: Driver's seat in T31

Hi Jalal,

The colour the trimmer used is called "Ebony", a dark charcoal close to black. I only got the front and rear seats done for $1,980 GST inc

The pics below were taken at night (just now) in my dark garage, I don't think they do the seats justice. We are very happy with the colour of the seats and how they match the rest of the car decor - I will show you some day!

The leather place started the seats on Monday of last week and the car was ready at 3.30pm on Tuesday.

The stitching, integration and quality is all top shelf.....right down to the little airbag tags they used!

Thanks Zhivan, looks like a top class job for sure and an excellent price too compared to asking for this leather as an option from Nissan (who would probably use these guys to do that as well)

I am thinking of doing all door trims in leather to match my seats, so would probably drop by their branch here in The Shire and see what they quote me.

Re: Driver's seat in T31

Paul from Private Fleet said that Nissan (and many other manufacturers) go external for their leather fitouts. My brother works for SMB (Novated Vehicle Lease Company) and he said the same thing.

Sounds like a good idea to do all your door trims etc I may do the same at a later stage.

I hurt my lower back some years ago and now I always drive with an extra lumbar support (contoured to fit curve of back) everywhere I go. Most days I am in the seat for approx 4 - 6 hours and have no trouble at all. I am on to my third support but found the best one came from the chiropractors (not K-Mart and the like).

Hope this helps. emoticon
