Hi,

No luck. Service couldn't find the cause of the dash noise unfortunately. Some days there simply isn't any ...

Cheers

Re: New T-31: Dash area noise and fuel gauge problem

It could be weather related.

I noticed the back of my exy rattles and squeaks a lot in the morning in winter when I drive on my way to work, but as soon as the sun comes out and the car warms-up, these rattles and squeaks considerably reduce.

Something to do with expanding and contracting of the plastic I reckon.

My car doesn't rattle as much in summer and that's for sure emoticon

Re: New T-31: Dash area noise and fuel gauge problem

Taztrail hit the mark! Thanks very much - we first found that the flap of plastic on the outside lower windscreen was definitely related to the noise we were hearing inside the cabin because the first match we inserted in the gap between the plastic and the glass made the noise worse. Eventually we found that four matches at intervals across the width of the screen completely eliminated the noise - quiet travelling at last. It will be interesting what the Nissan service people will say about it - and if they can do anything to eliminate the need for the matches.

I have not responded to posts for the last two weeks as we took the new X-Trail into Western Queensland covering nearly 3000km including a lot of gravel and some softer surfaces all without any new problems (other than a flat tyre on the last day). The "empty" fuel gauge problem still occurred once every 10-20 start-ups, and it now seems it is NOT connected with parking on a hill. Only seems to happen when the fuel is below half, but I would not want to bet much that it might not happen with a fuller tank.

Re: New T-31: Dash area noise and fuel gauge problem

Hi Phil
We picked up our new T31 three weeks ago and have also been plagued by dash-area noise that has been driving us mad! After going to the local Nissan dealer to book it in for its first service and asked them to look for the rattle, we pinpointed where it was coming from, the outside of the windscreen where it meets the loose plastic strip. We fixed it ironically by sticking the Nissan Service Co-ordinator's business card between the windscreen and the plastic strip! Ahh... silence at last! It went in for its service last week and we left the card there to show them where the noise was coming from. They inserted some form of padding in sections in the gap. All this seems to have done is altered the noise from the front of the dashboard to the left. It sounds like Nissan have a problem in this area.

Wow and I thought it was just my super sensitive hearing. I'll now be trying out some of these fixes. I didn't bother to alert the dealer as I'm sure I would have got the same response as most of you guys "oh we can't seem to here what you're talking about"

Re: New T-31: Dash area noise and fuel gauge problem

Nissan's answer to the Noise problem with the T31 was >>>>>>>>> The speed limit in the area dosen't allow us to test it properly!!! (bugger!) . I Have just completed two 400k trips in the last two weeks and the noise hasn't been heard! It seems to come and go!? Could be the "heat factor" or the Ice that covered my Xy two weeks ago ! I have asked Nissan to make a note of it in there service record so its still a Warranty item for the future . (May be the speed zones may change and they'll be able to test it !!) I have noticed that after washing my Xy, then drying it ,Closing the bonnet forces air/water up through the plastic moulding under and around the windscreen !

Re: New T-31: Dash area noise and fuel gauge problem

Sorry I started on the wrong thread, guys!

My new T31 also had a light rattle somewhere in the dash which was road and speed dependant. Finally found it to be the hard plastic rain channel under the windscreen wipers, butting up to the bottom of the windscreen. It did not appear to be well fastened, and rattled when I tapped it with my fingers.

I fitted a light u shaped rubber along the top edge of the channel, and stopped the noise permanently. Hope this might help you.

Breadalbane - yours sounds the perfect solution. But where do I find a "light U-shaped rubber"? Did it extend the full width of the windscreen?

Re: New T-31: Dash area noise and fuel gauge problem

I used a 5x5mm square rubber strip with a 3mm groove in it for edging plastic or metal sheeting. Clark Rubber in Canberra have a wide range, I think they have many stores around Australia.

I got a metre length, it didn't go right across but would be hard to get the full width in unless you remove the channel. Didn't use glue, it hasn't moved although no really rough roads since I did it.

Looks OK - if you don't like it you could maybe use some flat packing underneath the channel. Be interesting to see what Nissan comes up with!
