I'll just add a comment - "dash" noises really reflect around the front of a car.
In my old Mazda 3 MPS, I swore I had a dash rattle, turned out to be a surround on the rear vision mirror on the windscreen that housed rear seatbelt warning/status lights...... but it always sounded like a dash rattle.

yes indeed there is a tech bullutin about this problem , the rattle is coming from the plastic cover along the front of the windscreen , its a easy fix that nissan will carry out under warranty

Thanks for letting me know this is a bullutin. Just had my exy fixed last week, now the rattle completely gone. I mentioned to them about the bullutin and they know straight away and fixed it. I asked how did they fix it, they said they used thin double 3MM tape, it looks very neat, you wouldn't be able to tell there's 3MM tape under it. It's great to be a member of this forum, otherwise I might have to put up with a lot of Nissan's warranty denial. Just a week earlier, I asked them to check the rattle and they said they couldn't hear it 8(

I wouldn't say it was "a common problem with the Nissans".
Maybe a known fault in some Xtrails but such a generalisation is too harsh I think.

Nope Kev, it's a common problem indeed and it covered most of Nissan's (including Tiida, Navara and Murano) which I know of at least. Mostly new models.
