Re: Diesel - Engine fault light and a fault code that does not exist??

It is back in with the dealers today. They are giving themselves up to 3 days to solve the problem. Have lent me a rocketship (auto Tiida) in the mean time.

Seems that Nissan have told the dealer to proceed with fault finding as per manual. Did drive reasonable k's over the weekend and only had the fault light come on for about 10mins. No light this morning when I dropped it off and it was running fine.

I suspect an intermittent fault with the EGR valve is the case. EGR valves have been on cars since the 80's so you would think it was pretty sorted technology. I assume that the redirected exhaust gases are pre pollution control so the soot levels would be higher on the Diesel than a petrol car.

The scary thing is one load of dodgy fuel somewhere could be causing all the problems. Current tank of BP is still getting much better fuel efficiency than previous tanks (Caltex / Shell). I assume higher quality fuel burns cleaner

Dealer is still playing with the car. Cannot get the problem to reoccur. They have remounted all of the earth points for the car incase there was a problem with earthing.

They are going down the earth path due to a couple of different codes originally happening intermittently.

Anyhow they are holding onto it for another day, guess I will be getting it back tomorrow for my trip on Thursday.

Re: Diesel - Engine fault light and a fault code that does not exist??

Problem came and went over the weekend while I was away. Definately running differently (hesitation) when the light is on.

Currently the light is on so I will be taking to Nissan again for them to have a look. In reality I cannot leave it with them again until next Monday.

Given my bumper sand scoop destruction over the weekend I am considering asking for a trade in on a diesel Pathfinder or something that isn't a "pretender". False advertising I say! Pissweak and in my case unreliable.

Paulie,
I feel for you mate. I am in the same place you are in. I have now ripped my rear bumper apart twice, doing nothing out of the ordinary. I'm not going to fix it again.

The rattling noise dronus talks about comes and goes on mine also. It is definately something to do with the exhaust system off the turbo. Given a few more kilometers, Im sure mine will be in the shop for the same reason yours is there.

Dust in the motor through a dud oil filler seal, a 4wd system that packs it in the 1st bit of soft sand it comes in contact with, a notchy gearbox with stiff cold shifts, and a rear bumper that falls off for looking at it funny- disappointing considering the car doesn't even have 5000km on.

I hope Nissan sort out your drama, at least then they will know what to do when ours start playing up also.

Guys,

Please post your reviews and experiences with all the different problems you're facing in the T31 diesel section.

Our forum is here to highlight all the good and bad things about any of the xtrail models and it would certainly help others understand them while at the same time attract Nissan's attention to these problems.

I suggest you start a new thread in the T31 diesel section and call it "T31 diesel problems" where you can make-up a list of those and link them to their corresponding threads like this one for example.

posticon Re: Diesel - Engine fault light and a fault code that does not exist??

Hi,

I had the same problem and it is due to EGR valve failure. Apparently engine oil leaks on to the EGR valve and Nissan Japan is unable to figure out why. They said there are similar cases in VIC, SA & WA. The oil leak is so serious oil gets sprayed on to the air filter. Check your air filter for engine oil.

Nissan temporarily replaced the EGR valve and the air filter in mine, but advised me that I may have to bring it back for repairs when they find a solution for the oil leak. That I should keep a close eye on the oil levels and inspect the air filter every week.

Cheers.

The spraying of oil everywhere in the engine bay may explain why there were cases reported where T31 diesel engine seized (like HERE) and this case has been confirmed indeed!
