Heater unit or blower motor??? Help please
Hi everyone,
I have been reading through the forum about the topic but can't diagnose with my limited electrics knowledge.
One day my fan kept going at full speed even though I turned the unit off. No adjusting of the speed does anything, however, adjusting the mode works.
I even pulled the unit out to have a look and after totally being disconnected from the dash the fans were still running at full speed. The only time they turn off is if I take out the fuses.
How can I best check where the problem lies without spending money for a mechanic or electrician to check? If it's just the heater unit is there an easy way to fix without buying a new unit which I got quoted over $600???

By the way, I left out the important bit which might make all the difference. It's a automatic airconditioning unit out of the 2003 Ti. Digital display, climate control etc. Am I screwed? haha

I was going to point you in the direction of existing thread(s) but then you mentioned it's the climate control version.
At the end of the day, it's still likely to be resistor switching failure - even though the climate control might be "elecronic", there would still be resistors and mechanical switching of those resistors like the "povo pack" ST version.

Hi Zel,
It's a blown fan resistor, the part number for the Ti resistor which has climate control is mentioned HERE
You're looking at around $165.00 for it from the dealer and you can change it yourself too and save some $$$

Hi Zel,
Can you explain this part a little more for me please.
When you say "the fans were still going when the whole unit was disconnected" I presume all the wires were disconnected so it is difficult to understand how the fan would still be running without power.

I think Zel was referring to the radiator fans.
Zel, call your nearest Nissan dealer, give them the part number mentioned and get a price for it. You can't find that resistor after-market.

Unfortunately it is not the radiator fans. I have disconnected the climate control unit via the two plugs behind it and pulled the whole thing out of the car to inspect the circuit board. Unless I pull out the fuses the blower motor behind the glove box keeps running on full... ???? I'm stumped, I would have thought that dosconnecting the unit would turn it off. Is this then possibly something to do with the blower motor and not the unit at all? The radiator fans aren't running, the car ignition is on (on 3).

If it is the blower fan that is constantly running, then you probably have a short circuit. It would still pay off to check the blower fan resistor. You can visually check it by removing the glovebox.

This sounds too wierd for me.
I would just take it to an auto electrician and he might tell you something totaly different.
It might even cost you nothing for him to just check it out.
