G'day guy's
sorry i've taken so long, basshead pretty much got it sussed,it's made from 65mm.inside dia. plumbers PVC,1X45 & 1X90 degree bend + a safari air ram[76mm.]That's
the outside bit. The inside bit consists of,
50x100mm downpipe,a reducer and 50mm flexi-tube and all goes into the top of the original acummulator and then i just blocked
the old intake off.

(Admin) Added pic of the snorkel.

Re: Xtrail snorkel link

Thanks for your reply Dez.

How is it attached from the top, did you have to drill holes for the bracket to the hold the pipe in place?

Are you noticing any improvement in terms of performance at all since you're getting that much needed cold air to the intake?

Fuel economy...etc?

Re: Xtrail snorkel link

G'day Jalal,
the top is supported by a bracket that i made out of a scrap piece of the pipe, approx
40mm wide, heated until soft and then shaped
to fit, then i attached it to the pillar with 2 stainless self tapping screws, the pipe is then attached to the bracket with 2 more stainless screws.
As for performance & economy there is nothing really noticable, exept that i get cleaner air on dirt tracks and i don't have to worry about water getting into the motor so much.
Regards Dez

Re: Xtrail Snorkel

Dez,
Any chance that you still have the measurements or diagrams etc. Although its no Safari, it looks pretty good and appears to do the job. Just what I need for the Kimberleys next year. I know that I could probably get away with a tarp for the water crossings, but...
 Thanks.

Ok Cool

Just a question on the ducting planned for the sorkel, will it be simlar to the one that MQF50 or will it be ducted through into the fresh air intake chamber then into the engine bay?

Re: Xtrail Snorkel

Am not sure how Dez got his duct set-up inside the engine bay, but from what I have seen of his construction of the outside duct, it'll be the same, the inside duct will go direct into the existing air filter box as shown in this photo:

That's the plan anyway.

Re: Xtrail Snorkel

ok Cool, The reason I asked was i have been looking at few different options under the bonnet, like replacing the air filter box with an inline style unit so that i can fit another battery under the bonnet. Where the air box is.
