No, but I probably should've got some measurements from him... If you read my previous post you'll see I couldn't find my jigsaw with the metal cutting blades (which is probably still packed away in a box in the garage somewhere, but I thought I'd unpacked it already from the house-move).

I'm still keen to make up one too. I think Jalal and one other guy actually have them, and I haven't yet been able to get a diagram and dimensions off them. It would be easier if I were in Sydney to visit them. I haven't been trying very hard either.
From what I have seen in the photos, it shouldn't be very hard. There's only the single bend and a few holes...
If I get a free weekend, I'll try going under the car to try and put something together.
Jalal or Rich, if you're listening, any way you could help us out?

I actually took my bash plate off, so I can monitor fuel consumption a bit more accurately without any excess wait (apart from my own LOL)
Anybody wishing to come over is more than welcome to drop-by on a weekend to take measurements of my bash plate and see how it is attached.

I hope to be popping into Jalal's place sometime soon to take measurements and make up a cardboard template of the bash plate while it's still off his X-Trail...
I want to make up a simple enough design that's easy for you DIY people to make up... After looking at the photos of Jalal's fitted to the X-Trail, it already looks fairly straight-forward.

And one made out of 3mm aluminium should be heaps lighter than Jalal's 5mm steel one - but at a cost - it wont be nearly as strong.
Maybe someone here has the engineering knowledge to tell us how thick we need to make the aluminium one to make it to comparable strength to the steel one, and if the weight would end up being the same (at a guess I'd have thought a 3mm STEEL plate would be of roughly equivalent strength to say 6mm aluminium, and the weight would probably end up being about the same anyway).
