Centre Arm Rest
Hi Guys,
I have been in contact with a company in Sweden through the online xtrail shop after getting very interested in their product, which is a set of professionally made arm-rests designed for the exy.
They offer two styles for the x-trail which are very nice.
One large centre arm-rest for both the driver and passenger to share, or dedicated arm-rest for each the driver's and passenger's seat.
The arm-rests can be manufactured to match your interior by 100% be it in leather or fabric.
Here are some photos showing the available arm-rests for the exy
The arm-rest is attached to existing fixing points that are found in the seats by removing the seat covers and gaining access to the mounting points, a bracket is provided with the arm-rest for installation and all that needs to be done is for a small circular hole to be cut in the seat fabric.
The top cover or existing flap of the centre arm-rest console will become redundant, but you will still be able to use the storage box.
I am currently organising to have set sent to me so I can test fit it on my exy and will then be able to let you know further details regarding pricing, forum discounts and possible group-buy orders.
Many of us have been complaining about the lack of practicality of the existing factory arm-rest because it sits too low and this solution is the perfect answer to have this problem solved and provide that comforting factor, especially on long trips.

Re: Centre Arm Rest
I like the idea of the armrest, however i have 2 concerns......
1- im not to keen on cutting a hole in the seat fabric....
2- i guess there in no choice but to remove the lid of the console, I am one of these fanatical people that has to have everythin looking neat and hidded, i would drive me crazy seeing the things in the console ( Im so bad with things like that that i yell at Rach when she has the cup holder lids open when they arnt being used!!)
so.... I guess these arnt for me, but props to you Jalal for finding yet another mod for us trailers to consider!

Re: Centre Arm Rest
Adam,
I don't think you will be able to fit a large arm-rest along with the small one, as there isn't enough room between the seats.
Matt,
Regarding your concerns:
1. The hole you cut in the fabric and/or leather will be a circular hole the size of 10 cents coin, the fabric and/or leather will then get pushed around the mounting cylinder of the arm-rest assembly and will be completely hidden away and the edges of the cut fabric will be pressed in with another mounting ring, so it'll look like a factory set-up for sure.
2. I share your concern there and you're not alone, I also don't like the look of exposed storage boxes, but I have another solution for this after I fit the arm-rests. A simple and flat cover will do and it can use the existing flap mounting points. The only catch is that you would need to lift the arm-rest/s up to be able to access the storage box, which is not a big deal anyway. I have never used this storage box at all, cause things rattle in it
I just went outside and un-zipped the back of my leather seats and found the mounting points on the metal frame of the seats, so looks like this mod is a goer and I will be going a head with it soon.

Re: Centre Arm Rest
Jalal,
Will there be a RHD version of the larger armrest? In the pics the car is LHD so the armrest attaches to the left front seat, we would need it attaching to the right front seat so it moved with the drivers seat.

Re: Centre Arm Rest
Yes Adam,
I can confirm that the large arm-rest can be mounted either on the left or right side of the front seats, as the centre shaft is universal. This is clearly stated in the documentation I received from Sweden.
I will be ordering a a set of signle (separate) ones for the front seats for testing purposes.

Re: Centre Arm Rest
Matt,
This photo which I have just received from the manufacturer confirms my previous point about the professional/factory look of the fitting after you have cut the small hole in the fabric and/or leather.
Adam: 100% confirmation has been received from the manufacturer that the large arm-rest will be mounted on the driver's side, be it LHD or RHD car, so in our case the armrest will move with the driver's seat (not passenger seat)
I have taken some photos of my passenger seat showing the existing mounting points, the installation process is VERY straight forward and I look forward to receiving the arm-rests so I can fit them.

Yes, it does look neat, but what happens down the track if you want to take them out? or if it breaks 18 months later and you cant get a replacement? you are left with seat with holes in them.......
I know these are big what ifs but it could happen. So with this mod you can never take your car back to standard again..........
On the other side, they are a good idea, but nothing will ever ever ever get me to cut holes in my trim!
