How to remove unwanted scratches ???

Do we have any Panel beaters or Paint experts here in the forum? Or anybody that knows a little about this.

I know the following question does not refer directly to the X-Trail and can apply to any vehicle.

The paint protection is great, however it will not save your X-Trail from scratches. A have a few minor ones and one large one on mine which I’m not very happy about.

I do not want to get the panels resprayed.

Is there an easy and relatively inexpensive way to remove unwanted scratches? Any particular product? Buffing agent? Paint agent? Etc? That you know works, and where from, and how much, etc.

Thanks heaps for any suggestions emoticon

Kind Regards

Re: How to remove unwanted scratches ???

Noel,

For the minor ones and fine hair-line scratches the product I used and which has worked perfectly was Meguiar's Scratch-X

For the deep ones, it depends how deep they're, if the scratch went through the clear coat and into the paintwork of the car, then there is no easy fix for this, but if it only scratched the surface of the clear coat, then buffing the car should get rid of it. The only thing is that you will no longer have your paint protection on that section of the car and you would need to re-apply it.

A car with paint protection should not be buffed (at least this what they say in the booklet which was given to me after it had the paint protection done)

So, while I removed the fine scratches, I would be waiting a bit longer to get rid of the other ones, until I get the whole car buffed and polished.

I think the paint protection would not last forever anyway, so just try to ignore the deep scratches for the time being and get the whole car buffed and polished later on (you might get more scratches by then anyway) emoticon

Shane can ask his sister on how long does the paint protection lasts, by my understanding is that you need to have it re-applied after 2-3 years (I think)

I’ve pulled out the warranty info on “Shield 21”

Paint Shield: 8 Years
Carpet & Fabric Shield: 8 Years
Body Shield: Lifetime
Sound Shield: Lifetime
Tint Shield: Lifetime

Just as well I pulled out the “Shield 21” warranty. I hope I haven’t voided it. One major requirement is to have yearly inspections. I’ve had my vehicle over 18 months without any inspection.

Need to get onto this very soon

Cheers

I can't remember the brand, but I used some of that "coloured" polish on my charcoal coloured pulsar... I had heaps of stone chips all over the front half of the bonnet and it worked a treat.

If it's any helpm, the one I used came with a "stick of lipstick" for the stone chips. You just get the colour bottle that matches your car colour the best...

Re: How to remove unwanted scratches ???

Mate, I got time for everything both at work and at home emoticon

OK, the lipstick brand my dear friend (and my wife is looking at me suspiciously now emoticon is:

Turtle Wax, Colour Cure Car Polish, it comes in plastic bottle with this lipstick (chpistick is the correct name by the way) attached to one side of the bottle and it's function as per the label is to "mask deep scratches and chips"

Have fun with the lipstick emoticon
