Re: WARNING: T31 Potential Rust Spot

Am just wondering what to do if I do find that the bolts are starting to rust up.
Should I leave it and let the service guys fix it, or should I treat, repair or replace them?
Mmmmmm.

Re: WARNING: T31 Potential Rust Spot

As far as I remember, the bolts are welded or attached to the chrome finisher which go through the tailgate and secured by nuts on the other side of the tailgate, so I think it won't be possible to replace the bolts themselves but you would be able to treat them.

Hi Guys,

Here is the T31 number plate finisher showing the screws in question which cause this rust spot

If I were you, I won't wait for the rust spot to appear and take-off this finisher to treat these 5 screws with anti-rust.

Re: WARNING: T31 Potential Rust Spot

Hi Guys,

Another problem which has been confirmed to me by a Nissan dealer today with the T31.

It is the external high mounted brake light which has been reported to leak water into the cabin and causing major damage to the roof lining.

Nissan dealers have been advised to replace this brake light with a new type that is sealed or has a stronger seal, so if you experience a problem with leaking in that area, approach your dealer immediately as it will cause rust issues down the track if not fixed.

Re: WARNING: T31 Potential Rust Spot

Forgot to mention that dealers are getting a lot of rust warranty claims for the T31, mainly in the tailgate area because of that chrome finisher. Sounds like a design fault to me.

Maybe just a bad run, some build dates would shine some more light on this emoticon

Re: WARNING: T31 Potential Rust Spot

Peter,

You will need to remove the plastic door trim from the inside first to get to the nut/s holding this chrome finisher in place.

The plastic trim is attached by a combination of metal and plastic clips as seen below:
