Re: in car navigation

Hi JP,

The answer is yes. Nissan does sell in-car navigation systems for the xtrail.

Have a look at these thumbnails taken from the xtrail Japan accessories list

Price is a blast as well emoticon

It's been on my wish list for quite some time now and probably will stay there for quite a while emoticon

Re: in car navigation

There is an australian manufacturer called DENSO, but they only seem to sell to OEM's like Ford and Holden.

I wanted to do the same thing...the xtrail has a DIN slot in the glove box, Another DIN slot above the enviro controls, and a double DIN with a 6 stacker CD that doesnt play MP3. So i thought, LCD in the double DIN and CD/DVD/NAV in the DIN below. The best solution was a small form PC (DIN size), interfaced to the LCD, and the GPS receiver, plus map software. So basically your best bet is something like http://www.ja-gps.com.au/mitac_mio136.aspx or similar and run it out of the glovebox above the steering wheel or on the dash (for those people with dashmats)??? If you look at UK car accessories they have got everything, and manufactured by heaps of brands...we are so far behind in australia.

Just to note, I work for Sensis, who own WhereIs. They have extensive resources of Navigation mapping and if anyone has any questions regarding Sat Nav then I can ask the boffins at work.

Re: in car navigation

has anyone done anymore research on this...

i think it time for me to start thinking on one of this... radio, gps, ipod....

the radio with the 6cd changer is becoming ancient... time to make it more modern, especially with teenage girls and their ipods.... lmao

Re: in car navigation

Michael,

There are many cheaper options now on eBay (and other places) of the in-car/in-dash navigation system that can do much more than the advertised Nissan one.

Check Kian's one HERE for example.

Re: in car navigation

I'm in the process of fitting an identical unit - same supplier. I'll give a full write up and a comparison to the way more expensive VMS unit I was forced to use in the Navara once the job is done.

Re: in car navigation

After finishing the installation I'd have to say if I was doing it again I'd go with the VMS unit. I'll wait to hear back from the supplier regarding the latest failure before giving him the public hiding he probably deserves but so far the drams have been 1 faulty unit - cracked screen and one very intermittent reversing camera and far too many hours to get the thing to work.

To get the VMS unit in the Navara to the same point took a couple of hours and its still working.
