Rear power socket
Hi,
I am new to your forum and would firstly like to congratulate you on creating such a wonderful resource. I have now disabled the key in beep and changed my stereo head unit thanks to the detailed how to guides.
But I have one question.
I would like to make my rear power outlet active always - not just when ignition is on. I have installed a small Engel fridge and would like it to be powered when the car is stopped and locked and don't really fancy leaving a key in the ignition.
Has anyone done this mod ?
Mine is a series II Ti
Cheers,
Craig

Re: Rear power socket
It should be possible to disconnect the wiring at the front where it is connected to the ign on system & swap it over to always on battery power somewhere.
I dont know what sort of drain it would have on the battery though. You might come back to the exy after a day at work with a flat battery.

Re: Rear power socket
Hi Craig,
As Dave mentioned above, this mod is not advisable and could potentially drain your battery if used for extended period of time to power the fridge.
You'll be much better off buying a battery power pack and using for this purpose and other useful things (like powering night lights for example)
Another option you could consider is fitting a secondary battery in the boot area.

Re: Rear power socket
Hi Craig!
Welcome to the Australian X-Trail forum! We are glad that you have found the "how to" guides useful already!
There is a thread HERE that discusses fridges in the X-Trail that might help if you have not already seen it.
Please feel free to visit the Introductions section of the forum, and tell us more about yourself when you have time: Introductions

Re: Rear power socket
Hi Dave and Jalal,
Thanks very much for your quick response to my question and I am fully aware of potential battery drain. I used to use this fridge in my Patrol with dual batteries it is a really old engel and draws about 2 amps but is a very good size for the XTrail. All I wanted to do is run the fridge for a few hours for example while shopping, etc, so i don't really want to put in an aux battery at this stage.
I have identified the wire colors at the rear socket but am unable to find them up under the dash and the fuse box / under dash wiring is fairly inacessible and I don't want to just go pulling bits out.
Does any one know how easy it is to remove the fuse box ?

Re: Rear power socket
No worries Craig.
Here is how you can get to the fuse box:
And here is the wiring diagram for the power sockets (including the rear one) and the corresponding wires in the fuse box.
This is for Series II.

Re: Rear power socket
Hi Jalal,
Thank you very much for the additional info / diagrams. I will now be able to have a go and will advise the outcome when done.
This site would have to be one of the best run and maintained websites I have ever seen - you guys should be congratulated, well done !!
Cheers,

Re: Rear power socket
Would anyone happon to have the corresponding wiring diagrams (Rear outlet) for the T31 Diesel? I have grabbed a C50 Waeco - it runs a treat and has its own built in low battery voltage protection.
I have grabbed some Sealed Lead Acid batteries too, 40AH ones which i plan to use one as a thumpa - Waeco have a 12V -14.4V charger which im trying to hunt down in Adelaide.
If anyone in Adelaide wants one of the spare SLA's (they are just smaller than a car battery) drop me a PM - i have 4 new ones and will only need one or two. Ill post them in the FS section once i can verify the charging and do a howto guide.
Cheers,
Dronus
