Re: Rear power socket
Hey Dronus
I have run the same Waeco CF 50 on my standard battery for a couple of days and found no problem with drain of the battery.
My only concern is that I have to leave the key in the on position to power it up, that is till i put a second battery in.

Re: Rear power socket
Hi Gerard,
All T30 mdels should have one in the right side of the car at the back. It's covered by a black plastic cap.
Are you sure you don't have one?

Re: Rear power socket
I ended up running thick cable all the way to the back of my car, protected by a low voltage isolator under the bonnet.
In the back of the car is a 14.4v 8A waeco charge controller, and a Waeco 36AH battery. Has run a treat - set and forget with no mess. It would be nice to mount the battery somewhere else, but i cant find anywhere so far. Might have to save up some bickies to move the spare wheel out! My older car fridge will not run from the standard rear socket, it simply draws too much current or there is too much voltage drop, one or the other.. The new fridge worked fine though but i wanted to go the seond battery option.
Waeco Charge controller - its actually neater than this now, all the cables are tucked away. I used a cigerette lighter type socket on the output so that i can remove the battery and fridge when we have reached the camping site. I have a solar panel which charges the battery while we are stationary for a while.
Waeco 36AH battery. Works really well, runs the fridge for days.
Ill get a picture of the isolator if you want it..

Re: Rear power socket
Hi Dave - im not sure ill have to check the specs. I put a fuse in line with it just in case. I got it from ARB at eliabeth and is one of the sealed jobbies so unless it has an internal self resetting circuit breaker i wouldnt count on it having over-current protection.

Re: Rear power socket
Having said all that, the Waeco has a safety cut out function that will stop the fridge working and have leave enough power to start the cars engine.

Re: Rear power socket
Yep but you would have to wire it up so that your rear socket stays live all the time, or leave the keys in the car..
I find that by having the portable battery in the back i dont have to remember to do anything, and say, if we go for a BBQ and we are going to have a few beers and chill out for the afternoon i can take the fridge and battery to where we are, making the beer closer, which is a good thing
If you hook a weaco battery pack (or any SLA battery) up to your alternator you will cook it. An SLA battery should only be presented with 8A, this is why they have the charge controller.
The Waeco battery thing also has a second output which you can plug other stuff into, like LED lights, small 240V inverters, laptop etc.
My inverter (600W) and air compressor both need to be hooked straight onto a battery so the rear outlet doesnt get used at all , in fact i think i removed it for some reason and didnt put it back hahaha

How did you get the cable from front to back? I've tried to find a way through the firewall but can't see one!
