X-Trail Tail Lights Modification

Hi Guys,

I have come across an X-Trail the other night when I was driving at Sylvania that had the upper part of the tail lights lit (you know where the reflectors are at the moment) and the roof spoiler had an end to end LED stop lights. Looked really nice when braking.

I've asked the electrician I usually got to about the possibility of modifying the tail light to have an extra set of brake lights, but he said it can't be done.

Well, seeing this X-Trail has certainly proved him wrong.

I wish I could spot this X-Trail again to ask him where he's got it done.

Anyone inquired about this yet?

Jalal, I thought you were already planning to go ahead with that modification...

They might even be an aftermarket item (like you see clear tail lights on various Honda Civic's etc).

I was planning to go a head with it, until my electrician said he can't do it and I'm juts not confident enough to do it myself. I need someone to encourage me, just in case I stuff-up emoticon so, I'd rather have it done professionally.

I wouldn't want to change my tail light to an aftermarket stuff. The guy I saw had the originals, I'm sure of that.

If I could only catch this X-Trail again emoticon

Hell, who knows it could be someone from these or the other forums that lives close by emoticon

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification

I was looking at jalalski's website last night and found a photo of a black xtrail with a rear tail light in the bumper

Image

I have the slot for it. Does it have the wires at the back ready to go? And where can I get the light? I presume the Nissan Dealer??

Hi embi,

Yeah, that's my X-Trail with the rear fog/dust light emoticon The photo was taken by Richi from his car.

The wiring in the rear bumper bar is there already, but you need to take it to the electrician so he can wire it up to the same controls that switch on your front forg lights (if you have them) if you don't have front fog lights, then it's a bit more complicated and you gonna have to change/upgrade the lights control stick at the steering (from Nissan).

The rear fog light is NOT available through Australian Nissan dealers, they don't even know that the European model comes with the rear fog lights as standard.

I had asked my brother to send me the fog light from Europe.

The nissan guys at Sutherland, said that out of all of the nissan they get for service, mine is the only one with this fog light emoticon

That bit of plastic cover your currently have on your bumper bar, can be easily removed to have a look, and that was the 1st thing I've done when I got my nissan from the dealer. Just couldn't resist emoticon

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification

I wonder if the light is a common size... Perhaps something from SupaCheap or Repco etc might fit into the same hole?

Did you put the actual light in yourself, Jalal, or did the auto-electrician do that as well (I know you said he did the wiring)? Maybe you could describe the light to us - or even better - if you have any photos of it disconnected/removed from the car before you put it in...

Sorry to dampen your dreams of importing genuine Nissan parts, mate emoticon

Richi, I don't think that supacheap or repco would have a lens that can fit in the whole provided exactly (I have tried them before) emoticon

Anyway, if you try and remove the plastic cover on the bumper bar (just using something really thin, like a ruler or something) you would see the wiring and two screw holes were the lens would fit. The lamp holder is already there, so all you're getting is the lens where the lamp would be attached to.

When I went to the electrician, I had the fog light already screwed on in place, so he just connected the wiring to the switch/relay of the front fog lights in the bonnet and Bob is your uncle emoticon I got charged $35 for that.
