In Car DVD

I did a search before posting but couldnt find anything on the subject, My wife and i were thinking of getting the NRSE installed but when i did the sums its a bloody rip off for the dvd player that is and its not a very good player (no offence to anyone who has it) I just have found numerous aftermarket systems that are cheaper and better quality and have more playback options i.e dvd -r +r, cdr cdrw, mp3 etc etc
The biggest complaint i have about it is the NRSE can playback MP3 but not through the speakers only headphones? Whats that about.
Anyway i am interested to know what you guys think about these pro's and con's i know my two boys would love it.

Cheers Linc

Re: In Car DVD

Linc,

I just back from Qld and had 3 kids under the age of 4 (Not all Mine) and I borrwed a portable DVD player (Voxson)has own speakers and was the best thing I did. Sat the player on the centre console. I was not will to pay for the OE player either. You can now buy 1 player with 2 screen for around $600so the screens would sit on the back of front seats.

Re: In Car DVD

yeah i have used my laptop before which worked fine but obviously not real safe, but we didnt hear a peep out of the kids it was great. ithink i will go with the flip down option from the roof as the installation costs seem to be quite a bit higher to have two screens put in the seats. I think the problem with the Nissan one is it was probably fine when first released but it doesnt look like they have upgraded it as time goes on. Thanks for the reply and i will keep you posted on how i go.

Re: In Car DVD

Linc,

The 2 screen player that I just discussed is actually a portable player with no installation costs.

I think Shane is referring to this one from D. Smith for $598.

I was interested in getting one of these as well, but the ideal one for me would be the roof mounted DVD player and flip-down screen (all in one) not the OE one though.

There are plenty on eBay, so I'm just waiting to find the right one and the right price.

Re: In Car DVD

Yeah i thought about the mobile dvd players, they would have there advantages, but for the car i would really prefer a roof mounted system then i am not worrying about another piece of kit that the kids will no doubt break. i can get a good Kenwood or Pioneer system up here fully installed for $1400 so i will probably do that the week after my exy gets here ArGHH makes me bloody crazy having to wait! I want my car now! What sort of car dealer doesnt have CARS ? Maybe i should have bought that ford territory?

Re: In Car DVD

Hey Linc,

We just bought an stx.
As u know they gotta sunroof & u cant install the DVD player, though u can do after market into the headrests. U can plug in the xbox (PS2 if ur unlucky enough to own one, heheheh)

I didnt notice where u r from, but there is
a bloke at Campbelltown NSW called Louis from No Limits Car sound. Ph: 4627 9522.

He said they re appoustler the headrest material so it becomes built in & looks really neat.

Personally we reckon this is a much better option than the roof mount for viewing purposes.

We didnt go ahead with it because our baby boy is only 16mths old & doesnt watch tv yet, but once he's old enough we will.

Everybody who has kids that play up on a long trip swear by the in car system.

All the best
