Re: Second Fuel Tank Capacity
Before i had my first X-Trail i had a carby petrol Patrol.
In regards to the external Gas tanks - Mine had a 110l gas tank in the boot, and a 80l tank underneath, at the back. It also had a 60L petrol skim tank. It was quite good as i could get from adelaide to Albury, and part of the way back before realising how expensive filling it all back up was going to be The only problems i had with it was leaking pipes, having 2 gas tanks it had this thing which equalised the tanks, and i had to replace it a couple of times. Yes, there was a small noticable difference in power, but its an older patrol, not an X-Trail.
In regards to the gas gauge - mine was not that accurate, but after a while getting used to knowing how far you can get, and how you have been driving you work it out. It must be harder to measure liquified gasses accurately in moving vehicles

Re: Second Fuel Tank Capacity
Unless i was dreaming i think i recall someone in SA had a donut or pancake fuel tank which goes into the wheel well where the spare wheel normally goes.
Can that person post some pics and details? im considering some options in regards to moving my spare wheel and putting in a second tank for some west coast fishing trips...

Depending on space under the car and price it may be better to fit a new aftermarket long range fuel tank to replace the existing one. They are usually constructed from steel, much tougher and may hold around 80 litres or so for a vehicle the size of the xtrail.
Yep, im happy to leave the original tank where it is and just add one to where the spare wheel was. The fuel tank in the T31 is split onto both sides of the car making it difficult to change. If the engine cant feed from both tanks, a transfer pump could be used. Ill try and get into one of the 4WD places and ask them

Re: Second Fuel Tank Capacity
Andrew
Your better off ringing Bushranger or other companies that manufacture tanks directly.
The 4X4 shops will certainly not have anything for an X Trail.
