I wouldn't stretch the friendship anything past 50klms. I put (from memory) 56ltrs of fuel in the car after the light had been on only briefly. I get 10 ltrs / 100 klms consistently.

On Premium vs unleaded: my first 2196 kms on standard unleaded, I achieved 11.00 l/100 kms. I changed to Premium and ignored an out of the ordinary trip to Albury, and also ignored the first two tanks of premium. My next 2307 kms on premium I reckon was pretty comparable to the type of driving previously and I used 10.29 l/100. Regular@0.99*11.00=$10.89/100.
Premium @1.05*10.29=$10.80/100. I reckon premium is actually slightly cheaper or at least cost nuetral; the engine feels better and is probably on a cleaner fuel so may even have other benefits (as well as slightly more range - esp. handy when the orange light is on).
reminder: series 1 auto; most of this time the airconditioning was on (fan setting 2).
For my next experiment I might try a K&N filter.

Thanks for the detailed calculation Dave.
I'm hopeless when it comes to maths  so this has actually given me a really good illustration which would convince me to continue using Premium, as I've been doing for a while.
I haven't noticed anything differnet in terms of fuel consumption when I fitted my K&N filter, but there are other benefits for using this filter.

Don't forget the cost factor can bllow right out of proportion - I saw premium for $1.24 a litre on the long weekend!!!

Yes Rich, but I think the margin between unleaded and premium will most probably stay the same, so in the above case, I would presume that unleaded was selling for $1.15?

Hi Jalal and Rich and everyone,
Here in warm sunny Melbourne (at 4.14pm anyway)the cost difference at the service stations I use (where I can use the safeway docket for a discount) has consistently been $0.06 per litre. When I filled up this morning and just now when I was out and about, standard unleaded is 103.9 less 4c per litre and the premium 6 cents dearer exactly. Of course it only works if the difference is consistent i.e. Rich's example: premium $1.24 (my cost per 100 becomes 1.24 * 10.29 = $12.76) and regular $1.18 (my cost per hundred $1.18 * 11 = $12.98). If petrol is dearer, then the advantage of premium is greater. At current Melbourne prices, up to 7 cents dearer for Premium I'm still ahead. At Rich's prices, Premium can be more than 8 cents dearer and I'm still in front on price.
My driving is mostly city, includes towing the box trailer with a variety of loads; a monthly 500k round trip to visit family just as often with the trailer as not.
O and just re-reading some of the posts, I have tried 34 psi but reckoned I could count the gravel chips in the road; have been running on 30psi. Did not notice a difference in economy, but on one or two trips a bit hard to tell.

Prior to and since the recall of exhaust modification we have experienced extremely pour fuel economy @ 7.5 klms but no better than 9 klms per litre and it appears that it doesnt matter if it is around town and or on the open road. Towing a small trailer or camper the fuel economy can drop as low as 5.9 klms to the litre sitting at a highway speed no greater than 110.
Our car has done 50,000 klms, since the 10,000 service we have continually question Nissan about the fuel economy to no avail
Our question!! Is there anyone out there experiencing the same problem.

Hi Ron and welcome to the forum.
The figures you provided would translate to 11-13LT/100Km's, which is not that bad (the best I managed to get was 9LT/100KM.
Your towing fuel consumption at 17LT/100KM seems a bit high though.
