Re: Supercheap sale on Castrol Edge 5W/30
I still have 4 from the other sale, running out of room in the garage with this oil LOL
Well worth it if you use this type of oil.

Re: Supercheap sale on Castrol Edge 5W/30
I would also get some more, except I thought the oil would have a shelf life or does it?

Re: Supercheap sale on Castrol Edge 5W/30
With all that oil, Jalal, you could start selling it on the X-Trail OnLine Store
As for shelf life, you'd probably need to check with the manufacturer. It's kept sealed from moisture, so it would have a fairly long shelf life I imagine. There is no "use-by" date on the packaging, and I had an unopened bottle of magnatec sitting in the garage for at least 2 years before I opened it for the last service, and haven't had any problems with it. It was so long ago when I bought it that I can't even remember how much I paid for it, but I do remember it was on special.
I might be getting abit off-topic, but would the consequences be worth worrying about by mixing oils such as the magnatec and the Castrol Edge? I have whatever was left over in the bottle from the last oil change (guessing about 1.5L) that I wouldn't want to just throw out - perhaps I'd best just stick with the same oil until I completely use what's left in a bottle before changing oil types...

Re: Supercheap sale on Castrol Edge 5W/30
Thanks for the suggestion Rich, but nope
I found the answer to my question about shelf life in the Bible and you will find the answers to yours there too.
Looks like I'll be stocking up

Re: Supercheap sale on Castrol Edge 5W/30
We've still got one or two containers left from the last sale, but how can I NOT buy it?
I'm going back for more tomorrow!

Re: Supercheap sale on Castrol Edge 5W/30
Thanks Kev,
I read through Jalal's link to the carbible, but couldn't find any reference to mixing different viscosities (slightly different to my first query about mixing synthetic & semi-synthetic & natural/mineral oils)... The Magnatec I have is 10W40 - would it be bad to mix 10W40 with 5W30? Perhaps I overlooked it in the read-up as I was more looking for mixing of different types, and not different SAE ratings.
I picked up two bottles this arvo anyway, but didn't buy any filters (Valvoline @ almost $20ea!) - I'll wait until they're on sale or I find cheaper ones elsewhere

Re: Supercheap sale on Castrol Edge 5W/30
Remember though, this was different oils from the same manufacturer.
The resulting "grade" of the mixture was about the same as the lower grade of the mixture.
I can not comment on what effects might happen if the oils are from different manufacturers as there will be different additives and it would be difficult to know if they would react adversely with each other.
