Diesel, LPG Or Petrol?


Starting this thread for the purpose of seeing what the preferred fuel method is in this ever increasing technological era and inflationary world...

Answer the poll based on this question;

"If I was in the market, I would buy a new (diesel, LPG or petrol) X-Trail." OR "If I were to convert my current X-Trail it would be a conversion to (diesel or LPG)."

Basically, we want to see what fuel you would prefer your X-Trail use.

Nissan has claimed they don't see a market for diesel. Is this the case?

Lets also use this thread for opinons and ideas on conversions and the like, without too much duplication of the existing petrol based fuel threads.

I'd rather drive a high powered FCV xtrail LOL emoticon

Safe for the environment and doesn't cost much to run emoticon

Seriously though, my preference was always Petrol. It is expensive (esepcially in this day and age) but less troublesome than other fuels and provides excellent power.

Well, you can guess how im going to vote!

Diesel was my only choice for my new car. With the extended travelling im planing to do i need good fuel consumption (given that my new mazda weighs over 2t) I strongly recomend to anyone to go and take one of the new common rail diesels for a drive. They really are impressive. The bt will leave my x trail for dead for exceleration in any gear!

If i was in the market for a new exy i would prob go diesel aswell

I would love to see the exy come out in Diesel and I would definitely trade up.

For off-road work, what a great combination;
Pedders/BFG combo.
The electronics from the new T31.
Hi Tech exhaust system.
Low down torque of the diesel.
Larger fuel tank.

I agree Brett... there are a lot of advantages in having diesel for off road work. I'd be more comfortable getting out of tricky spots.

As well as that... X-Trail already raises the bar for towing capabilities... imagine the effect of having diesel added to that?

Hi Guys,
Imagine the efffect of diesel with LPG fitted. Just been checking it out for a mate who is buying a new diesel, and power is reported to increase by up to 30%. Supposed to improve economy also by burning the diesel better.
I'm not real technical, but the LPG/Diesel is becoming more popular among some caravanners, also with a well known transport king for his fleet.

Its diesel for me because in this day & age of ever increasing fuel prices you need economy as well as torque. This new T/D X-trail has got both & should also be very good in the bush & towing as well. I know diesel is dearer to buy at the pump & the car dearer on average to buy compared to an equivalent petrol model, to compensate this you should get better fuel economy & trade-in when the time comes ! emoticon

We needed a second vehicle this year - went for a Diesel Golf. Brilliant economy; great touring; on our 30,000kms per year still cheaper on fuel than the petrol version although since we got it (last Xmas Eve) the difference in price between petrol and diesel has gone from 10c/l to 25c/l; for long distance cruising or towing I'd go diesel every time, but the economics are probably not convincing for low kilometers per year or all city travelling. The Xtrail should do us a few more years now that its not running up 40,000 per year, or I'd replace it with a diesel when we needed to.

One of the 4x4 mags has just done an article on Petrol v's Diesel.
With the cost of diesel upto 30c/lt more, many people are wondering if diesel is still the cheaper option for running costs.

The tests showed that while petrol was slightly better for mainly city and highway driving, if there is plenty of load work (towing or work ute) or off-road (especially heavy sand work) then diesel is far and away cheaper as the petrol engines drink way more fuel in these situations.

Yep - with it being 30c/L difference between diesel and petrol, the X-Trail (at an assumed average of 10L/100km) is fairing slightly (only very slightly) cheaper to run than the Triton - but the big differences will come about with loads. I went on the beach in the Triton for the first time the other day and after driving around for an hour I still managed a low nines in consumption.

It'll be interesting to see what the new members with the diesel Exys report over the coming months. And we need to get some of them on the beach! emoticon

With the price gap as it is - the decision is getting harder - if it got any wider I expect the number of sales of diesels would slow down.
