Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
I live in Norway and have had my 1997 T31 with 173hp engine and 6 spd manual trans for 8 months.
I am really happy with it, and it's having a friendly fuel consumption.
600 km highway driving without much load showed 6,3 ltr/ 100 km, but when I filled it up it turned out to be 6,5 ltr/100km. Still pretty good.
With a canoe on the roof and a enclosed trailer with electric wheelchair and luggage behind it showed 8,9 ltr / 100 km on the dashboard, but in reality it had used 9,4 ltr/100 km.
So the meter in the dash isn't very reliable, but I still think it is a great car in terms of fuel consumption.
But the car is a nightmare to back up with a heavy trailer because of the lack of torque before the turbo kicks in. So I guess the clutch will have a limited lifetime if you are hauling trailers a lot because you will have to use slippage on the clutch to get the car moving and continuously slipping the clutch if backing up with heavy trailers.( I am used to having a 5,7 ltr petrol V8 and a 7,3 ltr diesel engine in my cars so I guess I am just spoiled).
Over all impression is still " I love this car!!!"

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
filled up again this morning - 778km and just squeezed 55L in so thats about 7L/100 again. City driving again, no real open road. Really need to find a weekend to get away and get her out on the highway...
Silly fuel gauge went to the last bar, and the fuel low light was flashing, but i could only fit 55L in which means it still had 10L in there.. will search forums for others with similar problems..
Was having lunch with a customer who bought a Mazda CX-7 (petrol) and he cant get it below 14.5L/100km which is annoying (for him!).

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
Good figures there Dronus, I can't seem to get under about 9L/100!
Car has done almost 3000km now.
We live 6km from the city and a lot of our driving is stop start, we drive in every morning to the cbd for work, and we don't get much of a good run, so it's not so bad I suppose.
We also do a lot of short trips which doesn't really suit diesels I heard.
I test drove one of those CX7s a few months ago, and they sure do drive nice.... lots of power and handle better than most cars, let alone softroaders.... but I've heard of people running at about 18l/100 of premium and the tires wear real quick, and at $400 each to replace they are expensive car to run!
Cheers,
Chris.

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
Diesels were made to drive hard Remember they are traditionally work engines (trucks and tractors etc.). 9 is good usage considering you are in traffic and doing short trips. I get just under 9 in the ute, but I'm doing 200+km freeway trips from Swan Valley to Mandurah and back each day.

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
my 50km to and from work each day is in city traffic and id rarely get above 60km/h for too long, mainly sitting in traffic thinking about what else i can fit in the "tardis" that is the glovebox... another story...
I was chatting with a friend this morning who just bought a new *cough* diesel Kia Sorrento *cough*.
She seems to be getting around 9L/100 or so which is pretty good for a larger engine. Bit bigger car too, but personally i like the x-trail better :-)
I went down the southern expressway during the week and the l/km thing wound down to 6.5 while cruizing. Might have to go for a strap down the south east freeway over the weekend or knick over to melbourne one weekend to get a better average.
Yep driving it a bit harder and keeping it in the power range seems to help, laboring the engine doesnt seem to do it any favors.. its cool to hear the turbo wind up..
My wife somehow single handedly changed my overall average fuel consumption for the entire tank (at the end of the tank) from 6.8 to 7.8 in one trip from the city... not sure how she did that, almost need a syphon hose!! ahahaha

Happy New Year All
Just back from a 2500 km trip commencing in Lismore (Nrthrn NSW) 2pax + Gear to Sydney, thence 3pax + gear and Engel to the Holy City (Cbr), a bit of running 'round down there, then 4 pax to Syd + gear & Engel to Sydney via Bowral, then 3 pax + Gear to Lismore. Mostly highway - 5th and 6th gear, sticking to speed limits (We're not that rich )
Fuel consumption shown as 8l/100kms (I think that means 29.5 MPG for all us old timers).
Very pleased. Quiet, comfortable, spacious - a great little vehicle which we recommend to anyone who asks, and even some who don't.

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
Looks like the DPF regeneration didn't affect my fuel usage.. combined cycle city and taking the freeway for 100 or so km brought me back to just under 7 l/100.
Empty car though, just me and my hopes and dreams about what to get from the X-Trail shop..

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
With my 16 x 7 AT BFG's on, stop start driving blows the consumption out to 9+; once rolling it drops back to 7.2.
Will put the OEM 17"s on and verify the difference.
I think its all to do with rolling diameters and perhaps heavier tyres, but there is certainly a difference.
(But the A/Ts do look good!)

John
Could you please post a pic of the BFG's on the rim, I am curious to see how they look.
Or send it via email.
Thanks
