Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption

I've seen 6.5L/100km on my T31 TL on a 125km run home from Launnie....

Equally, my normal daily run to work and back, with some savage hills gets me an average of ~8.4 L/100km

Although I currently have <5000km on the odo.....

The rough average between fills is about 750km.... so I'm happy enough.... I don't worry too much as its a work hack, more annoying to have to visit the servo too often than anything else.

And hi-flow diesel is the best way to blow the boss's money quickly emoticon emoticon

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption

Filled up Tuesday with another tank of BP..

780km, 54 Litres = 6.9l/100 which is about what i was getting before. Still gotta learn to not give it so much stick with the new exhaust.. wouldn't be helping..

Its awesome that it does that many km on a tank, i think i used to have to fill up after 550-600km in my T30

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption

G'Day All,

Our new (1/09) TS manual diesel has 11000Km on the clock now. We check usage stats every fill, so all figures we achieve are averages. That is, no differentiation between city/country driving.

Our best ACTUAL average so far = 6.2/100Km on a driving tour of NSW. Our worst so far = 7.9 (which included some towing of a 7X5 trailer).

TAKE NOTE - we have proven that the computers' fuel usage function is incorrect by between 200 - 500Mls/100Km. Eg ... if it says the average for the tank has been 7/100Km, the REAL average may be between 7.2 (best) and 7.5 (worst). Variances may be caused by individual pumps/servos?? We got very excited when we brought the car back after delivery (250Km trip) with its computer showing just 5.9/100, when in actual fact the figures were 6.4 ... which is still bloody good anyway!!

Nissan says that they cannot recalibrate the computer.

On a lighter note, we actually saw a reading of 1.9/100 on our computer after filling up at Toowoomba and driving home (we live about 20Km away at the bottom of the great divide)!! Now THAT is serious "wet-your-pants" type stuff!!!

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE ... We tend to be fairly light-footed with our vehicles since good economy is very important to us. However this is the first diesel we have ever owned (apart from a Massey Ferguson!!). EVERY mechanic we have bugged about the situation so far has warned us that we MUST flog the engine a bit to prevent gumming up/glazing.

Is this true in the case of the Diesel X trail or not??? If so, then just how much flogging do we need to do???

Cheers,

...Michael & Kirsty...

That advice is correct, you need to put the diesel engine under load every now and then and take it for highway runs to avoid DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) from clogging-up and to help it regenerate. More details about this HERE

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption

In terms of the Regen process I am nowhere near an expert and dont even own one.
Pretty much everyone believes that the DPF needs a good run at speed, to generate enough heat to clean itself out. Is this time based, sensor based or KM based I dont think its been figured out yetemoticon Happy to be corrected

In terms of diesel engines in generators, and vehicle engines an graders, 4x4s (pre computer control etc)....The engine internals specifically pistons and bores, need to be loaded up. The glazing issue is well known, and a glazed engine can put out carbon flakes out of the exhaust system (eventually requiring complete rebuild if not corrected)
The bigger the load (in relation to rated output) the better. They will go for years with correct servicing and a good load.

If it idles round town a lot, I would give it a good flogging pretty regularly just to keep myself happyemoticon
A high revving for a time period in N/P every so often, is not a load, the engine needs to "work".

They are low revving, high torque engines that LOVE having a good load put on them.

Thats my thoughts emoticon
