Towbar

Hi guys well just as well we (my partner and I) brought our x-trail early as our baby girl was 7 weeks prem. hence the absence without leave.....

Well we need to get a tow bar fitted. When I phoned a local Nissan dealer they quoted me $550 WOW…. This was one of those detachable ones. A friend of ours had some company come to his work place and install one for less than $200. I will do some more phoning around however two questions if I may?!

1:- Should I get a detachable towbar or non detachable (bare in mind I whacked my shin on one the other day with blood poring everywhere, it being non detachable ……)

2:- how much did you pay for after market installation.

cheers
Richard

Re: Towbar

If by detachable you mean the square tube into which you slide the tongue, mine had that on it when I bought it (secondhand). I leave the tongue in, but I put a rubber protector thing on it which dampens the impact. You don't usually bang your shin more than once or twice. Congratulations on the new babe: hope no complications from being so early - looking after my grand-daughter this morning; she was seven or eight weeks prem but five years later, you wouldn't know we had all those visits to the humidicrib. , David M

Yep Dave, same here, got the rubber protection as well. It helps a lot. Leave mine on at all times as well.

Re: Towbar

I got the detachable one (square tube) because I thought I'd always be banging my shins on the fixed ones, but since I brought the camper trailer I've left it on all the time, and shins are still unscathed.

In my view, if you are only towing occationally, then get a detachable one. Gives you that extra 15cm of reversing room in tight car parks.

Hi all,

I have the square hitch removable towbar but leave it in, just incase I need to push another car out of the way when I am parking in a tight spot!

Re: Towbar

A little sleepy, don't worry to much about them mate, they will be fine. Babies are fully developed at 30-31 weeks anyway, the 31-40 week period is just weight gain.
