Re: Recovery Points
Hey Ron,
Thanks for supplying that information, I'll pull off a bolt from each side and take them into nutz n bolts and get them to match them up with higher rated bolts, and I will get in contact with Mannell Motors and see about getting myself an equaliser strap..
Also Alex, in theory you are correct, with the equaliser strap which has the re-inforced loop in the middle, if you pull the exy anywhere but centre on, it sounds feasible that it would only put the pressure on one hook and not two, but I could be wrong as I've never used or seen one been used.. Only found out they were available when I started reading this forum you never stop learning with this place, its great.. I have also since seen equaliser straps which are just re-inforced in the middle of the strap which allow the snatch strap to choose its position when pulled tight, so I hope this information helps you out... The guys who have used these straps might be able to advise on the advantages or disadvantages of both designs..

Re: Recovery Points
Hi everyone,
ARB sell a recovery point that fits into your tow bar and can be found on this linkhttp://www.bushranger.com.au
Yes the company is bushranger and the item is called a recovery hitch.
Hope this helps anyone as I thought it was a great Idea for the X-trails.

Re: Recovery Points
Thanks Scot,
Looks like a great and handy thing to have for sure. Bushranger is our partner as well and they offer discounts to our forum, so the RRP of $40.00 can also be discounted further for forum members.

Re: Recovery Points
Scot, you can go to your nearest stockist (Autobarn - Browns Plains) and order it through them for the advertise price by Bushranger. All Bushranger ordering is to be done directly through them. Am not involved in this process.

Re: Recovery Points
Hi Compass9,
Some of the other guys will likely be able to offer first hand info from their experiences of recovering Exy's. Luckily, so far, I've not managed to get stuck so not had to do it personally. What I can say though is that when i did a 4WD training course a few months back (there was a T30 there as well as our T31) the guys there were less than impressed with front recover hooks on the T30. I know others in the forum have recovered vehicles using these so clearly they do work but the guys running the course were concerned at how strong they were.
To prove that just because something is newer it is not necessarily better, they were pretty much horrified that all the T31 had was an off centre screw-in hook. They advised that winching from this should be OK but snatching, even lightly, was questionable and may result in the screw threads getting stripped or jammed or the hook itself getting bend so that you couldn't get it out and maybe damaging the front bumper. Makes you wonder what Nissan were thinking really!
In both cases they said that if you need to snatch the car out and it's possible to do it backwards from the tow bar then that is the safest way to do it, or the way likely to do least damage to the car anyway. I didn't have a tow bar fitted at the time as I never tow anything, but have since had one fitted just in case (they were not too impressed with the single recovery point on the back of the T31 either). Your description of how to do this was correct......put the loop of the strap inside the end of tow bar and lock the pin through it. You can get the proper recovery hitches with shackles already attached but I would say this was a bit over the top for most X-Trail drivers. If you spend half your life off road and regularly need to be snatched out of trouble or are regularly snatching others out of trouble then I think it would be a good idea but for most of us who may use it once or twice a year (if at all) I think it would be overkill.

Re: Recovery Points
I've been yanked out of mud twice and sand once using the front recovery points without any real problems.
I would definitely use an equaliser strap so you can hook up to both points if at all possible.
The high tensile bolts will decrease the chances of the bolts shearing off so that's a good buy.
