Re: Recovery Points

Just wondering if an equiliser strap is the same as a tree trunk protector?

Also, i can confirm that the current recovery point(s) are ok enough. I was stuck going up a hill in the Brindies, just didn't have enough low down in my manual 05 exy to get over the humps. A land cruiser effectively snatched me over a few humps. This was done via him connecting his snatch strap to ONE of the tow points and him gently accelerating in low gear up the hill, i would accelerate the best i could, and when i was not abel to get over the cruiser just took up the slack and pulled me over.

The cruiser driver was a tad worried about my toe point though! Hence i want to know how to safely connect to both two points in the future.

Kane

Re: Recovery Points

Hi Kane,

Yse the tree trunk protector can perform the same function as the equaliser strap but as mentioned in this post earlier by Brett, you need to make sure the length of the strap is atleast 3m. Otherwise you risk the possibility of your recovery points being "squashed" together by the excessive force exerted inwards on them.

I have the BlackRat equaliser (shown here) , as does Brett, which has attachment hooks built-in which fir the Xtrail recovery points without extra shackles.

Re: Recovery Points

Brilliant thread. I'm off to Fraser in early January and the recommendations will be useful...hopefully I won't need to be snatched.
I will purchase an equaliser strap, appropriate snatch strap and bow shackles. I don't have a tow bar (I don't need one) and wondered if anyone has been able to get another recovery point fitted to match the rear left point? Any info would be great, i'm going to the fourby store in 2 weeks.

Re: Recovery Points

Hi Alex,

You might be able to get a fabrication shop or the fourby store to make one which attaches in the same way the towbar would on the other side. Just make sure they use high tensile bolts to attach it.

And by the way, don't forget to upgrade the bolts of the front recovery points with high tensile bolts along with purchasing the other recovery gear ?
