Its manufacture date is Aug '03. The 4wd is activated by 3 push buttons.

Another clue is the reflectors in the rear bumper bar - series 1 has rectangular reflectors, series 2 are round. David M

THIS summary of all Australian xtrail version may give you an idea about the difference, but in any case there isn't much difference between Series I & II apart from cosmetic changes to the front grill and rear bumper and the dash layout, which one of the major differences between the two models. Also the wiring of the whole car is different between S I&II.

Then we come to the 2006 model which is yet again different than the above 2 models and has a more restrictive exhaust system to comply with the new emission control regulations.
