Hi Folks
I have faxed a few questions in regard to the Recall notice to Nissan H/O Melbourne & Sydney and also local dealer where we bought our X-trail.
Sent a copy of Recall Notice & all details in the faxes were almost identical.

I await there replies.

Hey all,

Thought I would get a bit of inside info from my mate who works as Nissan's national service/parts co ordinator.

He was a little cagey but told me he knows it only affects the series 1 model & can become a problem around 30'000km.

Also said it can depend on how hard the vehicle is driven... HMMMM i wonder...

He only has the same info as us at the moment, but Nissan aust. are going to advise them soon on what to do.

Hang in there all u series 1 owners.....

I'm in official mourning at the moment as one of many series 1 owners who had driven over 30K (with no evident problem as yet) emoticon

I guess I wasn't driving it hard enough emoticon

Did your mate hint on what type of fix is planned for this problem?

i was talking to a mechanic who works for a nissan dealership and he was telling me that the problem is the catylist in the catalytic converter is getting damaged and breaking away. most of the time this does not have any bad effects, it will just throw up an o2 sensor code and can be fixed by replacing the catalytic converter and sensor. but on the odd occasion it has been noted that the catalyst is being sucked back into the engine when both intake and exhaust valves are open at the start of the intake stroke. this has caused a few problems and there have been some engine rebuilds involved.

hey everyone,

Spoke to Nissan Goford today and they were not aware of the problem either but said if there was a known problem it would be repaired and i would presume this would be the same if out of warranty (Correct me if wrong)

For eg- VL commodore used Korean alloy head and had problems with cracking after warranty- Holden covered costs but reduced amount depending on mileage.

nissan has told dealers 8 months ago about problem and what to do if it comes up.

i have just found out why the catalytic convers are falling apart. apparantly the xtrails have a problem with it not burning all of the fuel. this causes the extra air/fuel mixture to go through the catalyst and it damages them. nissan have told the dealerships that when they replace the damaged cats, they should carry out a self learn test using the nissan consult system. they believe this will rectify the problem.
