posticon Recall for the T31 *Steering Related*

Hi Guys,

Came across some news in Europe suggesting a serious recall for the T31 in relation to a defect with the steering assembly.

Details as follows:

Category: Motor vehicles
Product: Passenger car - steering gear needle

Brand: NISSAN
Type/number of model: Qashqai model J10 (United Kingdom); and X-trail model T31 (Japan)

Description: Production dates:
J10: from 6 November 2006 (SOP) to 30 June 2007 T31: from 7 March 2007 (SOP) to 18 June 2007.
VIN numbers:
QASHQAI - from SJNFBNJ10U1-000283 to SJNFBNJ10U1-069569 ;
X-TRAIL - from JN1TBNT31U0-000110 to JN1TCNT31U0-009282.

Country of origin: Japan and United Kingdom

=====

The product poses a risk of injuries because there is a possibility that the needle bearing is missing from the steering shaft (J10 & T31) and the cover screw may not be correctly tightened (J10 only). This may result in the cover screw loosening, resulting in free play and noise through the steering. Ultimately this could lead to a loss of steering.

Not sure if it will affect the Australian T31, so time will tell if Nissan Australia issues a similar recall here.

This is just a heads up at this stage.

Dunno mate, but am guessing because they might have been produced in a different manufacturing plant than diesels.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jalal. Will tune in tomorrow for the latest.

Will Nissan fix this apparent problem free of charge, or will we have to bear the cost?

Stephen,

All official Nissan recalls are covered by warranty and are done free of charge. You will receive a letter from Nissan advising you of the recall.

Nissan China has also recalled 50,000 xtrails due to this defect. Details HERE

Hopefully I can get mine done while its in a million bits at Nissan.

I also heard from a clutch guy saying that there is also a possibility for a recall regarding the concentric slave cylinder as well, aparently it leaks onto the clutch, I don't know if there is any truth in the rumour.
