Re: Tweeters Installation FAQ page
I would guess that they are crossovers as I think I mentioned in an earlier post about my tweeters...

Re: Tweeters Installation FAQ page
Thanks Richi, I bought them, as I have read some good reviewes about them on the net as well.
They actually cost $15US in the States.

Re: Tweeters Installation FAQ page
Thanks to Richi's magic hands that could fit into the front dash grille, I now have "chrome" Boss tweeters and they sound excellent.
They came with a cross-over as well and they're the swivel type, so they can be directed at you for better sound.
Very happy with them and for a total cost of $30 (including postage) they're a bargain.
Thanks for your help Richi.

Re: Tweeters Installation FAQ page
A long time ago I added photos (to the tweeters page) of the subwoofer box I built (maybe it's in another thread; I can't find it!) and I've just added some photos of the Anderson-style plug and other quick-release connections I used to be able to remove the box without the use of any tools...

Re: Tweeters & Subwoofer Installation FAQ page
I've spent most of today building box number 2 for the X-Trail. It was abit of a spur-of-the-moment thing as it's been on the "to-do" list for quite some time, and I had nothing else planned on my day off...
I've made it so it goes along the back of the back seat (and below the cargo blind).
I've taken some photos during the construction stage, which I'll put on my webspace, but there's not any html code yet.
It's not finished yet (waiting for glue to dry, and thus haven't trial-fitted it yet, either) but completing it shouldn't be too difficult or time-consuming. Depending on what Clare says (ie: it might be too big to keep in the boot permanently) I might actually cover this box in black carpet. I still need to make up a grille to protect the sub and amplifier, or at the very least, go and buy one of those ugly subwoofer grilles (it might be difficult to find one that isn't going to be hit by the long-excursion subwoofer surround!).
Brief specifications are:
internal (net) volume: 2.58cubic feet (comes down to 2.294cubes after port and subwoofer displacement)
port: 10cm x 10cm (square) x 45cm long, giving a tuning frequency around 32Hz.
I wanted to make the port exit the box on the same plane as the sub, but due to the lack of space on that side of the box (after the amplifier is mounted and sub screwed in) I didn't have any choice but to have it exit on the side of the box.
construction photos: http://ww2.datazap.net/ftp/basshead/xtrail/2005-07-22_box2/
edit 1: two more photos of the box completed with sub and amplifier mounted. Not yet any photos of it in the boot yet as Clare has the car @ the gym...
edit 2: three photos of it installed in the boot, plus one close-up of the port.

Re: Tweeters & Subwoofer Installation FAQ page
I can't believe it's been two years since I built this box. Unfortunately it's spent more time in the garage than in the boot (maybe an accumulated total of 2 months in the car over the two year period!) and now it's not likely to ever go back in again after Clare pops #1 out - we'll need the boot space for the pram...
I'll have to wait until it goes back in again and see if the pram still fits in.
As with every other dozen-or-so boxes I've built over the years (except for two), it is still in the raw material finish, and not covered in pretty speaker-box carpet.

Re: Tweeters & Subwoofer Installation FAQ page
nice place for installation, was wondering how to take some of this apart....
question... how do you know when the tweeter does not work anymore... I am assuming sound should come out of them... but is there meter testing to see if they are weak.
thanks
