CB Radio - How to fit
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has fitted a CB into their X-Trail. I am planning to purchase one soon and need info on the best place to mount it, (thinking underneath the radio/CD) How to get the antenna cable through the firewall, best place to mount the aerial (was thinking of mounting on the nudge bar as most larger 4X4s have it mounted, and aslo how to get power to the CB. Im looking for a professional fit without getting it done at the dealer.
Also, what brand would you suggest? I was thinking of a relatively small unit UHF 40 channel to mount under the CD area in the 2003 Ti model.
Thanks
Greg

Re: CB Radio - How to fit
Hi Greg,
Welcome to the forums.
Saw your pics on the main page, very nice ! especially in the snow
The radio subject has been discussed before but and the thread for it can be found HERE
For Series I exy's the best slot to mount it would be just above the ashtray in the free slot we have there.
The whole face plate is being held by 1 bolt found inside the left cooler box, once you unbolt that, carefully unclip the face plate around the CD player. Make sure your steering wheel is tilted all the way to the bottom, so you can squeeze out the face plate.
From there it's about 8 screws to gain access to the DIN's.
You can run power to it from the existing CD player or the cigarette lighter in the drivers-side glovebox.
Antenna mounting options can either be on the nudge or using the Z plate on the left hand-side fender.
Can I also please ask you to visit the intro. section and tell us a bit about yourself (where are you located, how did you stumble across this forum..etc)
P.S. Please also update the location details in your profile when you have time.
Once again welcome on board and enjoy your stay with us and hopefully we will catch-up through one of the events we're trying to organise.

Re: CB Radio - How to fit
Greg
The GME 3200 fits in perfect in that spot.
I had the aerial on a z bracket on passenger side. Recommend that if you use a z bracket ensure you use sufficient coax to run it out to a nudge bar just in case. You can tuck the excess away and it will make it an easy step to move it later (as in you wont have to replace the coax to make it longer)

Re: CB Radio - How to fit
Just a word of warning - since fitting the GME (fantastic range, by the way!) I've noticed there are "combo" UHF/GPS units available. If you're considering buying a GPS (I wasn't at the time), then I'd recommend you look into these units - while they don't offer all the "bells & whistles" of more expensive stand-alone GPS units, they may be adequate for what you need.

Re: CB Radio - How to fit
Good point rich, not sure though that the best spot for the GPS105
would be in the bottom din though. A few of the guys with them have said it can be difficult to read the screen.
There is about 5 members now with the unit and they have passed some feedback if you are interested. There is about 9 pages of discussion however this LINK is about where the feedback starts

Re: CB Radio - How to fit
I have fitted an electrophone TX 3400 remote cb into the area behind the drop down flap below the radio(series 2 TI). The base unit & microphone are fitted under the drivers seat. Unit is always in the vehicle but it's hidden when the flap is up. Out of sight out of mind! The only give away is the aerial. The head is held in using velcro(stick on type) with the cables running through a hole drilled in the back of the console.Pics can be seen in Photo's XTrailing mods.

Hi guys. I am looking at installing a UHF soon and need a few questions answered.
1. How do you gain access to the DIN slot. A previous thread suggests removing a bolt and then 8 screws....Can someone explain this a little more please.
Brett, yours is series I, so it is much easier to get access to the DIN slot than series II. The bolt we're talking about is located inside the left hand-side drink cooler box, open the lid and you will see it. Once you take-off that bolt, the whole face of the dash just snaps out towards you (easier if you tilt your steering wheel all the way down, so you can take that face off)
You will then see the 8 screws we mentioned (4 of which hold the cd player/stacker and the top flip pocket in place and the other 4 holding the bottom try and the ashtray)
You will also need to remove the side trims (the grey ones) before you can see the bottom 4 screws, they just snap towards you when you're sitting in the driver's seat.
Once you take the 8 screws off, the DIN slots will be in your hand and you can then decide where you want to mount the GME.
quote: 2.For the gme tx3200 (small face), how is it secured in this DIN slot. Do you use the bracket.
Yes, you need to order the bracket from GME for an additional $25 I think.
And remember, we have a forum discount for these too, unless you're using an existing GME from your Pajero
