Re: 4WD Rear Wheel Torque Display

Maybe a dumb question...

but because the sensor is linked on to a wire coming from the 4WD/ABS actuator (particularly the latter),

wouldnt the signal (thus the display) be altered by the actions of the ABS system?

or is the hall sensor attached onto an outgoing wire that goes exclusively to the 4WD electronics in the rear of the car?

just something that entered my mind the other day.

This DIY is truly amazing.
I wish I could call it a DIY but I doubt I could call it such cos I think its abit beyond me to do myself.

But I'm willing to pay if someone wants to make a duplicate and send it or even create a laymans terms guide for the age/experience challenged such as myself emoticon

Exactly. The wire it is clipped onto is the outgoing current wire for the rear transmission 4WD solenoid.

Got your PM and more than happy to build it for you. Will return PM to arrange details.

Re: 4WD Rear Wheel Torque Display

Thought I'd plug it in again today and see if it still works (after being bumped alot sitting in the driver's side storage compartment, with the daily use of the compartment for storing and removing of sunnies, and the 2 garage remotes), and it is perfectly calibrated to this hot weather we now have emoticon

Re: 4WD Rear Wheel Torque Display

Thought you would just leave it installed and just unplug the 12V adaptor Rich.
I remember how much effort it was to clip on the sensor in the Series 2 emoticon

Re: 4WD Rear Wheel Torque Display

That's what I did - plugged it in the power outlet in the driver's side compartment. I wouldn't waste my time completely removing and reinstalling it! emoticon

Re: 4WD Rear Wheel Torque Display

OK time for another update.

I have been building a circuit for the first T31 to have this fitted emoticon

Found by reading through the service manual that there are different values of solenoid current in the T31 depending on the engine/transmission combination emoticon ...

M9R Diesel Manual & Auto = 1.8Amps
QR25DE CVT = 1.8Amps
QR25DE Manual = 2.8Amps (same as T30)

Now I have to do a redesign to either have two configurations of gain resistors or as is my preference, include a jumper to configure for 1.8Amps or 2.8Amps.

Looking forward to installing and testing it out Kev!
Even saved up a trip to the beach to see how it goes.

Re: 4WD Rear Wheel Torque Display

UPDATE ...

The final design of the modifications for 1.8A and 2.8A versions has been finished.

I have changed the values of the gain trim potentiometer and the ground resistor in the gain circuit to allow adjustment for both with a single 25-turn trimpot. This also makes the gain adjustment more stable because of the finer adjustment offered by the 25-turn potentiometer.

Updated board schematic, circuit diagram and partslist have been put into the original post here. I have also updated the fitting and calibration instructions to include the Series 2 and T31 models.

I am currently working on a zero setting indicator circuit addition to make the setup of this display so easy that it can be done without any voltmeter required which is the hardest step in installation. I will also make this as a small upgrade board which can be added to existing boards if any current members would like it retro-fitted.

I have received the gear and am now getting ready to install it. I'll post some pics when I'm done.
