check out your wheel bearings as it sounds like they could be an underrated or faulty item in few vehicles.

That is a very good advice indeed. The xtrail bearings are underrated for sure and require periodic check or a more serious and costly problem could develop which has been explained HERE.

Andrew is right, get our wheel bearings checked if you're almost out of warranty. Mine had to be replaced at 35,000km.
cheers

It might be worth copying Andrew's last post on the previous page (or the relevant parts of it) and Julie's response to the thread you linked to above, Jalal.

The warning and Nissan's recommendation about the bearings is there already Rich, see THIS post.

Please post any subsequent information about the bearings in that thread to keep this one on topic.

Hi Andrew, i was just wondering if you have done any towing or beach driving since changing the clutch and flywheel. do you feel any difference when towing or driving on sand? i am curious as my clutch is slipping (will have to change it soon emoticon ) and i have been told that nissan's dual mass flywheel is a better option for beach driving and towing, which i do often. Cheers.

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

Hoping that you can help me source a solid flywheel or conversion kit for my 2.2Dci sport xtrail, the second replacement DM Flywheel is making sounds of distress and I am considering fitting a solid mass flywheel. The first DM flywheel failed at 38k miles and the replacement DMF failing at 20k miles, having read this thread it is clear that a number of Australian owners have already carried out this mod and are able to advise of a supplier/ part Numbers etc. and of their experiences, I see from the Aus xtrail forum that there are parts/kits avail down under. I have contacted exedy europe and Australia. no reply as yet from Aus, and none avail from exedy europe. any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks
allan

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

Hey guys

I'm looking at clutch/clutch and flywheel upgrades and ive contacted a few places regarding this, the only manufacturer who does a heavy duty package (lots of places do stock replacements, but that wont do the trick, especially cos I'm already spinning out more power than stock, + ther is more to come!) is Australian Clutch (xtreme clutches) and they offer a heavy duty clutch kit including a solid mass fly wheel for $1350

the clutch has a 850kg clamping force and 25% stronger than stock, and the flywheel raplces our dual mass (crappy) one with a solid mass.

the heavy duty package can be found HERE

They also offer the stock package (regular strength clutch with solid mass flywheel) for $1235

this is the cheapest option ive seen. Any other package has to come from the US and is for the sentra. shipping and the crappy aussie dollar will push the price for a spec/stillen/JWT over $1600 easily.

im well prepared to pay over $1000 dollars beacuse this is important to get right.
i dont want sh!tty quality products spinning off my engine...

does this sound alright and what are some of you opinions on aftermarket flywheels/clutches?

The menu system on that site didn't work for me so i couldn't see the products and kits. However, the idea of a conventional solid flywheel is appealing and there's nothing really wrong with that. I'd be worried about going too light, you will stall too easily at traffic lights etc. The real reason for the dual mass flywheel is to cut down on vibration, so with a normal flywheel you could expect a little more vibration especially at low engine speeds.

Shawn,

The menu system is working, except the mouse over effect of the website is not working correctly so the mouse pointer doesn't change when you go over the menu items, but if you click on NISSAN while having the mouse over it, it opens up the sub-menu.
