Correct me if I am wrong Scot (or anyone else) but when in manual mode, don't you have to manually shift the transmission to get it to change gears ?

I think in this case, the engine torque was not enough to pull up the hill in 3rd and when you put the transmission into auto it "kicked down" to give you the extra torque and power according to the accelerator position sensed by the ecu.

Maybe if you manually shifted into 2nd then you would not have felt this lack of power.

Tried selecting manually with no success on moving the gears down nor up kev.
