Yet another T31 CVT transmission failure A similar situation to the problems of "plawton" and "bjdani". But this time at 48,000.
I was driving on a suburban sealed road with a gentle incline today at about 30 kph on a house purchase exploration. Then stopped for a few moments, leaving the X-Trail in D and the foot brake on - literally seconds. On trying to drive forward, there was hardly any forward movement. Within a minute or so of trying for a few seconds at a time I was rolling backwards every time I tried to drive forward after removing my foot from the foot brake. Then tried to drive off after putting it back into Drive from Park for a few seconds – no power at all!
I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I have used 4WD. The only things I have done today is use hill descent for the first time with 4WD, and then only for about 300m. I also used 4WD lock for a couple of minutes while looking at some blocks of land. Certainly not rough terrain.
I called Nissan Road Side Assistance rather than RACQ to make sure that it got into the Nissan database from the start.
So my questions:
Does anyone know of a link with the CVT transmission failure and the use of hill-descent, 4WD lock, or both together?
This sounds like a growing problem, is Nissan trying to keep it quiet? Especially after the comments by "yummymummyis40".
What is the point of Nissan just putting another transmission of the same type in my X-Trail?
Any advice would be gratefully received. My X-Trail is being moved from the RACQ (they have the local Nissan Road Side Assistance) holding area to the local Nissan dealership in the morning (Fri 23rd Oct 09).
