Re: T31 CVT Ive done 900km in my new t31 and its different from any other auto I have driven before. Im getting used to it but there does seem to be a bit of an art to driving it. It often stays in gear even though I thought I had given it enough juice to push up a gear, particularily on hills. From reading the manual it sounds like it may be a 'feature'. Too smart for its own good I think - very different from my old falcon but the manual suggests the CVT is smart enough to be left to its own devices but you can over-ride it by putting pedal to the floor. Ive been a bit reluctant to do this because the dealer told me not to go over 4k revs before the 1000km service. Overall I love the car, I guess I just have to adjust to the CVT. Will talk to them about it when I take it in next week.

I have found that it needs only slightly more throttle pressure, and never flooring it, to get it to go up hills, it may be that your not noticing it actually changing up as it is very smooth, I once tried just maintaining constant throttle pressure whilst going up a hill and keeping a eye on the tacho to see what happened, and the tacho slowly began rise before settling at a constant rev. Driving around the city mine hardly goes over 2000rpm getting up to 60k's, there are some hills with a speed limit of 80-90k's and it'll go to about 3000rpm.
I mean I was even towing my 1200kg boat the other day and at 60k's it was doing about 1800rpm normally 1500rpm, and about 2200rpm, if I remember correctly, at 80k's, it changed up pretty quick on hills but again never going over 3200rpm.
I suppose it could be just the way your used to how the old autos work.

Re: T31 CVT I have just done a 1777 km trip on Freeways, winding country roads and a little off road ! I love the way the CVT operates I have never seen over 4000 revs ! even going up hill with a loaded ! THe CVT holds the legal speed limit uphills with no worries . It does take a little time to get a customed to how it operates . It also went well overtaking slow vehclies on a single lane country road ! I won't say what speed registered on the speedo but it was impresive in such a short time The cruise control brought things back to normal nice and easy . Off road at walking pace up hill the Cvt was great ! just point it at a hill and go ! Just a bit of wheel spin ( Grip searching ) and constant revs mak efor an easy climb.
8.7l/100k was good too.
Today i used manual mode to reduce my speed on a dirt road . It nearly brought me to a standstill !! the road is mainly flat with a little down slope !

Im up to 1500km on the dial and normal city driving has been a joy now that Ive gopt used to the cvt. I think you were quite right, just a bit more throttle then Im used to and flooring it not a great idea haha. Also for step inclines, a bit of momentum obviously helps too.
Im going to try and get some sunset photos in the hills over the next few weeks so will be pushing it a bit more in this enviroment will advise how she goes.
Wow Helldude, Im keen to try out the manual mode but thats a bit of a worry - was there any noise from the transm.? I still have nightmares after Bec put my Falcon into reverse by accident at 80k haha
