Re: soft roader diesel comparision - guess which is numero uno
Some people have all the luck Jalal as you rightly pointed out by only having one puncture in 15 years, but you know the old saying, what can go wrong usually does so at the worst possible time. By this, can you imagine being hundreds of miles from the nearest tyre repairer & having to do 80kph max until you get there with your space saving tyre ? No thanks, but getting back to the main thread about the comparison of the vehicles, I was very surprised by the somewhat negative review they gave the 3rd placed Santa Fe. From most other reports I have read about the car, they seem to be rather positive towards it & even though I am not so sure about the outside shape, I think the interior is first class. Still, I think the X-Trail was the deserved winner even though not many people seem to like its shape for some reason. Everybody to their own, but I think the current T-31 shape is excellent.
Cheers !

The Santa Fe is a good vehicle too. Good friend of mine has one he has taken across the Nullarbor twice and he has had no issues. Only failing as I see it, is the foot operated parking brake. The interior is OK - I think the X-Trail is classier.

Re: soft roader diesel comparision - guess which is numero uno
Hi Guys,
I test drove a tiguan on Sat - Nice car! The Auto parking was a hoot!
Space saver spare and narrow boot space rule it out for me. I was a nce car to drive with a solid feel and plenty of pick up for a diesel.
The sales guy said if you didn't choose a car that was in stock (12) you could wait until June next year for delivery!

Re: soft roader diesel comparision - guess which is numero uno
Hello all,
Know it's old news now .... but everything old can be new again!!
We bought a new Xtrail diesel in April this year ON OUR WAY TO THE VW DEALERSHIP TO TEST DRIVE (and probably order) A TIGUAN DIESEL!!!!
Do you know what sealed the fate of the Tiguan?? Yep ... the space saver spare, and the carpeted cargo area.
Those jerries are usually pretty switched on with their research and their gear, but what in hell were (and still are) they thinking?!?!
The X-Trail hasn't disappointed yet, and seems pretty well "kid proof" so far!
Cheers,

Access that full size spare is going to be an adventure should I ever need to, there's 6 bits of plastic between it and the real world........and all of them need to be removed to access the spare.

Re: soft roader diesel comparision - guess which is numero uno
Not to mention all the stuff that then sits on top of it all.
For now, I've removed the drawer setup in the back of my XTrail to gain some extra load height. It is pretty quick & easy to do, but the plastic bits sure take up some garage space.
And on the Mazda CX-7 -- same motor as the Mazda 3 MPS 2.3 turbo petrol .... that I averaged about 10.5L/100km over ~65K of ownership/driving. So in a much bigger, heavier auto -- even 12L/100km is doing well.
