Buzzing noise after shutting down the engine? It might be my hearing playing up, but after you have driven a fair distance, you idle down the engine for a few seconds and then shut it off.. If you get out and go around to the front of the car can you hear a buzzing noise? It goes for a few minutes then stops.
It doesn't sound like anything is broken, maybe an oil pump pumping oil through the turbo?
I asked the guys at Nissan and they weren't too sure, suggesting it was probably fuel or oil related.
Does anyone else get this on their T31 Diesel?

Re: Buzzing noise after shutting down the engine? I've had a look in the workshop manual and the turbocharger has it's own electric cooling pump. I think the noise you are hearing is this pump circulating coolant through the turbo after engine shutdown.
VW have the same sort of system on their diesels. I think this does away with the traditional practice of letting turbo engines idle before shutdown. Without the pump I understand there can be localised boiling of the coolant in the turbo housing after shutdown.
One thing that's not clear in the workshop manual is whether the electric pump runs all the time the engine is running ( and after shutdown) or whether, as I suspect, normal coolant circulation is provided to the turbo by the main water pump during normal running and the electric pump only kicks in at shutdown.
Glenn.

Re: Buzzing noise after shutting down the engine? Excellent, thanks Glenn!
I popped the bonnet of my T31 to look for the buzzing sound, but it doesnt look anything like the engine in my '56 Wolseley in there so i shut it again - i think ill leave that to the people who know what they are doing!

Re: Buzzing noise after shutting down the engine? Not that I have the Exy - but I get a buzz in my Triton after shutting it off too - I put it down to the turbo cooling down also.

Re: Buzzing noise after shutting down the engine? Yeah, it sounds like a very faint electric buzz. Mine does it also. Runs for a couple of minutes, then turns off. It is something to do with turbo cool down.
I thought i was imagining it when i first heard it.

Re: Buzzing noise after shutting down the engine? I don't think its anything to do with the turbo cooling down. The other morning I unlocked my car and was loading some things in and heard the same noise, it lasts for 4 or 5 seconds then stops. Faint buzzing noise, yet the car was stone cold, hadn't been started.

Re: Buzzing noise after shutting down the engine? Hmm.. I dunno how diesels work to be honest... not in any detail. What's the glow plug do? I know it has to warm up first. Does it remain on after shutdown?
