Warmup time on T31 diesel

Hi all,
Over here in the land of shakes and lakes, it gets a bit chilly in the morning.
This morning it was 2 degrees C and the Exey didn't seem to want to get to full warm temp on my 20 minute drive to work. The guage showed 4 of the 6 segments (6 being normal running temp) at the end of the journey and the guage showed a very slow increase in temp from cold.
Had the a/c on to clear the window and the heater on low (had the heated seats cranked up)
Do you think this is normal or should I get it looked at.
I've only clocked up 3300 ks and everything else seems fine.

Cheers
Tony

It is normal, obviously the colder it is outside, the longer it takes for the engine to reach 'normal' temperature.
Another advantage of this is, with you diesel owners, that the turbo absolutely loves the cold air hence giving you peak performance.

Yeah mine take a little longer to warm up on the cold couple of days we have had here (its not as cold as over there though!) Perfectly normal i guess.

Is yours "rattlier" while its cold? A mates SR5 sounds like it has a sump full of marbles while it is cold.

Im jealous - a 2009 TL ! makes my 2008 sound old now... Welcome to the forum!

Re: Warmup time on T31 diesel

Thanks dronus.
I have noticed the engine is a little noisier when cold but I haven't heard a diesel which isn't nosier to some degree when cold.
Nearly 4000 ks now and the engine feels really strong.
The higher powered version in the manual must be amazing. We don't get the manual version here in NZ.
Economy is good, especially in NZ as our diesel fuel is 2/3rds the price of 91 octane.
Diesel per litre is .98c per litre and 91 octane is $1.58 so diesel is a good choice here at the moment.
There is road user charges of $370 per 10,000 ks on top of the diesel costs though, but it still works out way cheaper.
Towed my boat which is pretty much on the towing weight limit for the diesel and averaged 12.5 ltrs per 100 ks which was very pleasing, especially considering how well the diesel tows.

Cheers
Tony

I am surprised the NZ market doesn't get the manual - I think it would be better suited for some of the country you have than the CVT. Yes it is a fantastic vehicle and I like the ratios which match the torque band of the motor very well.

I have also never exceeded 10l/100 and that only during some very heavy deep sand driving.

Re: Warmup time on T31 diesel

Hello, up in Auckland here. Over the last week or so it got to around 3C here in mornings and on my 10km drive to work I didn't reach normal engine temp either. So its normal. Mine has 18'000km on it now.

The T31 auto diesel in Australia is a 6 speed auto (not CVT)
