New in WA
Hello there!
As of yesterday I am the proud new owner of a 2004 T30 II Ti with 98900km on the clock!! I reside in South Yunderup, WA.
I suspect these issues may have been flogged to death before but if anyone has 5 minutes maybe they could put these three points to rest (or not) for me;
1) I see in the service book that came with the vehicle that a timing belt change is due at 100 000km, am I right in believing that there is no timing belt rather a chain which does not need to be replaced?
2) I am thinking of replacing the catalyst (the one that breaks up and gets sucked back into the engine), is this a good thing to do, any pros and cons and how what kind of cost?
3) The butterfly screws in the intake manifold... I have read elsewhere of people having these checked and glued in with 'Loctite'. Am I right in thinking that this problem is less likely in later engines and is 2004 late enough?
Thanks in advance!!!
Gus

Re: New in WA
Hi Gus and welcome to the forum.
Your member number is X-1439
Glad to have you as a formal member.
Your post has automatically granted you Regular Membership status and access to most (but not all) forum sections. You now have the option to upgrade to Full Membership to gain access to all forum sections (details HERE).
This section of the forum is reserved for introductions only. As you may have read already, we did discuss the questions you are asking in existing threads, so there is plenty of information there available to you already and those existing thread can be used to ask follow-up questions the answers to which will benefit other new members well.
To point you in the right direction:
1. The xtrail doesn't have a timing belt. It has a timing chain that doesn't need to be replaced at all. Only the timing chain tensioner needs to be checked at the 100,000kms service.
2. To replace a cat. converter you will need to have the entire exhaust manifold replaced, as the factory cat. converter is built into the manifold and can not be removed by itself. One of the available solutions we have is the Hi-Tech exhaust system which addresses this problem. More information and pricing are available in THIS thread.
3. The butterfly screws problem is real and can happen to any T30 xtrail model driven in higher RPM ranges, less likely from the 2006 model up due to the new design of screws which have washers in them, although I won't bet on it either. Please use THIS thread to ask follow-up questions.
There is a lot of useful information around the various threads and I am sure you will be quite busy reading it all.
Please use the search feature of the forum first and post any questions you may have into existing threads where possible. Try to avoid creating a new thread if the topic is already covered, thanks.
Let us know if you need any help with any aspect of the forum and we will be more than happy to assist.
We have set-up quite an extensive forum guide section which you may like to refer to for help and it can be found HERE
As a new member you are encouraged you to familiarize yourself with the following section of the forum: Site Navigation & Forum Guides
If you could update your location and add your name and Exy model (when you get it) into your signature of the Miscellaneous section of the Control Panel it would help us all to answer any future questions you might have.
