First Day Trip in the X-Trail
After picking the car up on Tuesday, my wife and I had Friday off work, so we decided to try the X-Trail out.
As I mentioned in my intro, this is the first vehicle I've owned in 20 years or so that doesn't have a transfer case, so we took it easy, no attempt at off-road yet.
The car is a 2004 Series II ST, looks great with reasonable kms on the clock, and I traded a Ford Raider we've had for years on it. With a couple of the kids getting their licenses, we didn't need a seven seater any more, and we wanted something easier to use in town and better on fuel.
The day was a mix of highways at 100ish on cruise control, some dirt backroads that varied from easy to hills behind Tenterfield that needed 2nd gear in auto 4wd, and after 640 kilometers we filled up and the fuel worked out at 8.9 liters/100kms - quite happy , and yes, my wife checked my maths
Very comfortable, handled all roads well, the tyres ( Toyo A/Ts ) were reasonably quiet and handled a lot of water from a storm we drove through really well.
All in all, we're both very happy with or purchase so-far, hopefully we'll get to try it off-road next weekend.

Re: First Day Trip in the X-Trail
Hi Tim,
Glad to see the exy is working well for you both!
The camp out we are doing in November has a creek crossing that is fun.
Where are you heading next week end ?

Re: First Day Trip in the X-Trail
Looking to head out to a local property that has a few decent tracks through the mountains to try the X-Trail out on - not looking for anything too extreme, but it should give me a good mix of tracks and terrain to see what it will do.
