Re: It's a Blythe Wedding!
The next five months flew by so fast. Joy was so stressed out. College was out for the summer, so Joy was living at home.
One afternoon, she was pacing around the kitchen.
“Joy! Calm down!” Anne said. “Everything is right on schedule.”
”Well, what if something happens? Like the cake…what if they get the wrong flavor? Or what if they accidentally put nuts on it? Alex is allergic to nuts.”
”I’m sure they won’t have nuts on the cake.” Gilbert tried to reassure.
Joy calmed down, but only for a second. “Wait! AMJ…does that stand for anything?”
“Not that I know of.” Anne said. Gilbert shook his head.
“Ok, good, because at Ashley Smith’s wedding, her cake spelled BRA, because her husband’s initials are BR.” Joy said. Anne and Gilbert tried to hide a smile. “Another time,” Joy continued. “Do you remember Peter Meredith? The Meredith’s cousin? Well, his fiancée, Stephanie insisted they do the whole initials thing, without realizing it would spell out PMS on the cake.”
Anne and Gilbert couldn’t contain their laughter. They thought that was hysterical. Joy looked at them impatiently.
“Well, my distant cousin Paul Blythe married a girl named Jenny…PB&J!” Anne and Gilbert were still laughing.
“Mo-om. Da-ad…” Joy said. “This is serious! What if something goes wrong? Not just the cake and the initials, but the dresses?”
”Everything will be just fine!” Anne and Gilbert said simultaneously.
The week of May 21st finally came. Like Anne and Gilbert said, everything was fine. The flowers were ready, the caterer was ready, the band was ready, and most especially, Joy and Alex were ready.
“Hey.” Alex’s voice said on the phone, the night before the wedding.
“Hey.” Joy said. “Are you ready?”
”I’ve been ready since 5th grade.” Alex said. “Hey, is this legal?”
”What?”
”The bride and groom talking before the wedding?”
”Yeah, I think it’s the groom can’t see the bride the morning of the wedding or can’t see the bride in the wedding dress until she walks down the aisle.”
“Ohh…”Alex said.
”I can’t believe we are getting married Tommorow!” Joy exclaimed.
“Yeah—“ Alex said, but was cut off by Joy’s scream. “Joy?” Joy didn’t respond.
“Rilla! Get this thing off me!”
”Nope! We are kidnapping you!” A familiar voice said.
“Rilla? Persis? Faith? Ace, Natalie? What the heck are you doing?” Joy asked, but cooperated. Someone handcuffed her and they carefully took the pillow case off and blindfolded her.
“Don’t try anything, Missy!” Someone said in a Eliza Doolittle accent.
”Who are you?” Joy asked confused. Rilla smirked. “Alex! He’s still on the phone.”
”Alex Miller! We’re kidnapping your bride!” Someone said and hung up. Joy was pretty sure that was Faith. The three walked downstairs and outside. They got into an SUV and drove around, which seemed like forever.
“All right! Out!” The girl with the Eliza accent said. Joy obeyed. She felt the cool breeze, so she knew she was somewhere near the beach. Someone took Joy’s arm, and led her up some steps, and into a lighted room. Joy had no idea where she was. The sat Joy down, and tied her feet and arms to a chair.
“Have fun waiting for Prince Charming!” Rilla said.
“Is this what you call the bachelorette party prank or something?” No one answered. “Hello?” It was silent. Joy tried to figure out where she was. It was either the Meredith’s shed or the Lighthouse. She fiddled with the rope to untie it. “Hurry up, Alex.” Joy thought.
Outside, the girls camped out by the lighthouse.
“I wonder how long those guys are going to take.” AC said.
Alex starred at his phone. “What in the world was that?”
“What’s wrong?” Nate, Alex’s friend from BC, asked noting his confused face.
“I think Faith and them kidnapped Joy? At least that’s what one of the girls said.”
What Alex didn’t know was that he knew about the prank. Alex grabbed his keys and his hoodie and ran to his truck.
”Hey, Nic? I’m coming by to get you and Ken and Jem and Jerry. I think the girls kidnapped Joy.” Alex said as he drove.
“All right, we’re all at the Ford’s.” Dominic said. When he hung up, he laughed. They too knew about the prank. Five minutes later, the guys were in the truck.
“So they kidnapped Joy?” Jem asked.
“Yeah, that’s pretty weird.” Alex parked his car by the beach. “All right guys, let’s go find her.” He went in one direction, and the guys went in another.
“I wonder how long it’s going to take before he finds her.” Ken said. The guys split up into groups worked their way to the lighthouse.
For the next twenty minutes, Alex looked all over. He couldn’t figure out where they took her. He noticed a light in the lighthouse.
“Of course! The one place I should have looked.” Alex took off. As he approached, the group quieted down and hid. Footsteps approached and then they heard a door bang.
“He’s in!” Rilla whispered.
Alex ran into the lighthouse and saw Joy tied to a chair blindfolded.
“Alex?” She asked hopefully.
“It’s me.” He untied her blindfold. “See?”
”I’d give you a hug, but, I can’t.”
”Right, right.” He untied her. She finally got up and stretched.
”What took you so long??” She asked.
“I’m sorry.” Alex said. He hugged her and was about to kiss her.
“Give me a boost!” Persis said. Faith boosted her up. Persis saw them embrace. “Ok! Now!”
“AHHHH!!!!!!!” The group yelled running into the lighthouse. They sprayed silly string and threw toilet paper and confetti all over the unsuspecting couple.
“You guys are awful!” Joy exclaimed laughing.
“We know all your names and addresses.” Alex joked.
“We know.” They said. They cleaned up the mess they made and headed out.
“All right you too…This is the last time you’ll see each other as single people.” Faith said. Alex embraced Joy in a hug.
”Goodbye Miss Blythe.”
”Adios Mr. Miller.” The guys and girls separated and drove home.

Re: It's a Blythe Wedding!
Finally...the day we've all been waiting for...
Joy woke up the next morning to a cool breeze coming in through her window. Her mom must have opened the window. Joy ran down the hall and slid down the banister.
“Whee!” Joy said gleefully. When she got off, she accidentally tripped and crashed into the floor. “Umph!” Everyone rushed in.
”Are you ok?!” Anne exclaimed. Joy laughed and dusted herself off.
“Yeah! I’m great!”
“All right, we’re leaving, so you ladies can do your thing.” Gilbert said. He, Jem and Dominic hugged Joy before walking out the door.
“Bye!” Joy said.
Once Gilbert was outside, his eyes watered up. “Today’s the day.” He thought.
“I can’t eat…I am way too excited.” Joy said.
“You need something to hold you over.” Rilla said.
“Have a fruit bowl.” Natalie said.
”Well ok.” Joy said. Anne watched the girls talk and laugh. After breakfast was finished, Di, Natalie, Rilla and Faith ran up the stairs. They all sat on Joy’s bed.
“All right girly girls, let’s do this!” Anne said enthusiastically. A few hours later, Joy was ready.
“Man…Alex is going to pass out when he sees you!” Natalie said.
“You are beautiful, Joy.” Anne smiled.
Joy smiled back and hugged Anne. Someone took a picture.
“Hey, mother of the bride and bride, smile!” Faith said. Anne and Joy smiled.
“It’s about the time to go to the church.” Rilla said. The girls made it to the church without being seen. They went to one of the classrooms and waited.
Someone knocked on the door and said, “Can I come in?”
”Yes.” The girls said. Gilbert walked in. “You girls better take your post.”
Faith, Di, Rilla and Natalie all hugged Joy before leaving. It was just Joy, Anne and Gilbert in the room. It was silent. Anne took Gilbert’s hand and intertwined her fingers with his.
“Well?” Joy asked quietly.
“Oh Joy, you are absolutely beautiful…the prettiest bride on PEI, well after your mother.” Gilbert said. Joy laughed.
“Thank you Dad.” She hugged Gilbert. Just then, Dominic and Jem walked in.
“Whoa…Joy, I’ve never seen you so…”Dominic said.
“So…prettied up” Jem said. The guys were so used to their tomboyish sister that whenever they saw her in a dress surprised them. Joy laughed again and hugged them.
“You look great little sis.” Dominic said. “Mom, it’s time to go.” He held out his arm.
“Thank you, Nic. I love you, my little bundle of Joy.” Anne said.
“I love you too Mom.” Joy said. Anne smiled as she wiped a tear away. Gilbert and Joy waited a few minutes before going out in the hall. They saw Dominic walk through the doors escorting Anne and Hannah to their seats. Natalie and Nate walked through the door, then Jem and Dominic and finally Ken and Rilla. The ministers wife quickly straightened Bruce’s bowtie, before he walked down the aisle. As Di walked down the aisle she happily scattered her petals.
Joy noticed Gilbert’s eyes water up. “You okay?” Gilbert looked down at his daughter and smiled.
“Yeah.” He nodded. “I was just thinking of the time you were born. I guess you’re not my little soldier anymore.”
This time, Joy’s eyes watered up, but she kept them from spilling. “I will always be your little soldier.” She whispered. They heard AC slowly end the song she was playing.
“This is it.” Joy said. The doors opened. People started to stand as AC started to play a song. Joy realized it wasn’t the same one as the one she played at rehearsal. She saw Alex in the front of the church. He smiled brightly and then to Joy’s surprise, he started to sing.
“I am amazed
When I look at you
I see you smiling back at me
It's like all my dreams come true.”
Joy’s eyes watered up, but she kept smiling. Alex thought she was beautiful. Her auburn hair had been straightened and curled. Joy’s green eyes sparkled. Her veil, which had been Anne’s, gently draped across the back of her head. Joy’s white halter top wedding dress flowed gently as she walked down the aisle. She looked like an angel.
”I am afraid
If I lost you girl
I'd fall through the cracks
And lose my track in this crazy lonely world
Sometimes it's so hard to believe
When the nights can be so long
And faith give me the strength
And kept me going on”
“Oh, doesn’t our Joy look stunning?” Mary Blythe whispered to John.
”She does.” John nodded. The proud grandparents watched Joy float down the aisle.
Chorus:
You are the love of my life
And I'm so glad you found me
You are the love of my life
Baby put your arms around me
I guess this is how it feels
When you finally find something real
My angel in the night
You are the love
The love of my life
Joy finally reached the front of the church. Alex stood on a step diagonal of her. He continued to sing.
”Now here you are
With midnight closing in
You take my hand as our shadows dance
With moonlight on your skin
I look in your eyes
I'm lost inside your kiss
I think if I'd never met you
About all the things I'd missed
Sometimes it's so hard to believe
When a love can be so strong
And faith give me the strength
And keep me holding on”
You are the love of my life
And I'm so glad you found me
You are the love of my life
Baby put your arms around me
I guess this is how it feels
When you finally find something real
My angel in the night
You are the love
The love of my life
My angel in the night
You are the love…
Love of my life…
By the time the song was finished, Anne was crying.
”Anne dear, don’t be so sentimental, you still have Nic, Jem, Rilla and Di.” John whispered a bit teasingly. She suppressed a chuckle. Mary handed her a Kleenex.
“Who gives this young woman to this man?” The minister asked.
”Her mother and I.” Gilbert said. He kissed Joy on the cheek and shook Alex’s hand before taking a seat. Alex took Joy’s hand and they stepped up onto the platform.
”Let’s pray.” The minister prayed a wedding blessing and when he finished, the crowd sat down. Joy and Alex gazed deeply into each others eyes. They didn’t hear a word the minister was saying.
Finally, what seemed like an eternity later, the minister said the words that would change their lives forever.
”I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”
Alex took Joy in his arms and kissed her sweetly but passionately. The crowd clapped and cheered. Joy and Alex noticed their wedding party and they started to laugh. The wedding party was holding up scorecards. Ken held up a 9, Rilla and Nate were holding up 10’s, while Natalie, Jem and Faith held up a 9.5. The crowd laughed as well. Alex took Joy in his arms and kissed her once more. AC started to play the piano and Joy and Alex walked back down the aisle together as man and wife.
**I was kind of bored, so I did some researching...

Re: It's a Blythe Wedding!
In the few moments of privacy, Alex and Joy started talking.
”Well, we did it!” Alex said.
”You made me cry when you started singing that song. It reminded my of when you sang Sixteen Going on Seventeen in high school.” Joy said.
”Well, did you like it?”
”Of course I did. I love you.” Joy kissed him. The wedding party walked into the foyer of the church.
”Ewww…” Bruce and Di said. The young couple looked at them and laughed.
”Oh come here.” Alex said. Bruce hugged him then Joy. Di followed, except she jumped on Alex. “Oomph.” He grunted.
”So you’re my brother now?” Di asked.
”Brother in law.” Joy said. Seeing Di’s face, “I’ll explain later…or ask Mom.” Di hugged Joy. The guests started to flood into the foyer.
”Di, you better go, so everyone can tell you how pretty you look.” Joy said. Di skipped off. The receiving long seemed like miles long. The Miller’s got pictures done at the beach with the wedding party and the families and finally entered the Marina. Everyone cheered when Alex and Joy Miller walked into the room. The reception was a lot of fun. Joy threw the bouquet which landed in Faith’s hands.
”You’re next, Faith!” Joy said. Faith just smiled, but she knew within the three years Jem and she had to wait, Ken and Rilla, or Nic and AC would be married.
“Bye!” Joy and Alex waved.
”Bye you two!” Everyone waved.
”Who knew a wedding can be exhausting?” Alex said.
”I know right.” Joy said. “So where are we going?”
”Ah…” Alex said mysteriously. “It’s a surprise.”
”Ohhh…come on…” Joy said. She snuggled up closer to him. “Just one clue?”
”Ok…remember our conversation by the pool? In Orlando?”
”No…yes…Brad. Avonlea?”
”Nope…Bahamas, Jamaica ooh I wanna take ya…”
”Oh my gosh! Are we going to the Carribbean?”
”Nope.”
”What?”
”You’ll find out soon.” Alex said. The two got to the airport, checked in, and got on a plane.
”I know Toronto is not our final destination.”
”Good guess.” Alex said. He sat back and Joy leaned her head on his shoulder. He kissed her forehead as she fell asleep. Joy was so tired, when they got to Toronto. Somehow she got on the next plane and fell asleep. She didn’t know where they were headed, and she didn’t care at the moment. All that mattered was that she was with her sweetheart. The next thing Joy heard was, “Welcome to London.”

Re: It's a Blythe Wedding!
“Rilla, please set the table, and Di help your sister. They’ll be back any moment now.” Anne said. She was in a hurry to get things done. Joy and Alex were coming back from their honeymoon in Europe and Anne couldn’t wait to see the two.
“Anne! I brought the salad and breadsticks.” Hannah called as she let herself in.
”Thanks! I’ll be right there.” Anne said. Amidst the chaos, the doorbell rang.
“They’re here!” Di squealed. Rilla and Di ran to the door.
“Jo—Oh.” Rilla said sounding disappointed. “It’s just you.”
”Aw, come on aren’t you gonna let your big brother in?” Jem asked. Rilla stepped out of the way.
“What’s wrong, Jemmy?” Di asked.
“I’m just tired.” Jem said. “I’m going down to my room to take a nap.”
“But what about dinner?” Rilla asked.
“Wake me up in 15 minutes…I just need a power nap.” Jem said. Rilla nodded.
A couple minutes later, a door opened and closed, and someone said, “Hello?”
“Joy!!” Everyone exclaimed. Soon they all surrounded Joy and Alex. They got dragged into the dining room. Everyone was asking questions. Eventually Gilbert and Jem walked in and the family had dinner.
“How was London and Rome and Paris?” Hannah asked.
“Wonderful.” Joy sighed. “We had a huge Jacuzzi tub in our room in Paris and from our balcony you could see the Eiffel Tower. Oh my gosh, it was wonderful.”
“In Rome, you could hear the violins playing whenever the windows were open.” Alex added. Alex and Joy still had the just married look about them. They talked about their trip and showed pictures to the family. Jem was a little jealous. Earlier, he and Faith had an argument. He wanted to get married in December, but Faith wanted to wait three years until he was done with Med School. Jem decided after dinner he would call Faith.
“Hey.” Jem said.
“Hey.” Faith said.
“Look I’m really sorry about earlier, I was a jerk.”
”No, I was being stupid.”
”I just want to get married now, and I didn’t even think about your feelings.”
”Jem, the truth is,” Faith sighed, “I want to marry you, but I’m scared. I mean…we have no money, we don’t have a house, and after we get married and your still in school, what if I get pregnant? I know your parents managed with 3 kids, but still! I’m just really nervous Jem.”
“Ohhh…Faith…” Jem sighed. “It’ll be all right…we don’t have to get married now…even if we do get married while I’m still in school, we can manage. We have each other, and our families to support us. And Faith, we do have a house.”
“What? We do?” Faith asked in surprise.
“Well, yeah, when Captain Jim passed away a couple years ago, he left me his house is his will.”
”What?! You never told me that?”
”I didn’t? I could’ve sworn…” Jem mused.
”No, you never told me!” Faith said.
“I’m sorry! I seriously thought I told you that!” Jem said. “But, yeah, we need to check it out, do some decorating and remodeling, because, it’s a little old, but it’s a nice little house by the beach.”
“All right, how about tomorrow, since you have school and work this week.”
”Sure. All right, Good night.”
”Night.”

Re: It's a Blythe Wedding!
AC walked off the elevator and walked to Dominic’s apartment. She knocked on the door.
“Nic? You there?” AC called. No one answered. She looked around for the spare key, found it and let herself in. AC turned on the light. Neither Mike, nor Dominic was home.
“Hm…” AC said as she walked into the kitchen. “I guess I’ll make the boys dinner or something…” She found a Hamburger Helper and started to make it. The phone rang.
“Oh…” AC groaned. Her hands were full, so she let it ring and let the answering machine pick up.
“Hi, Nic, it’s Cassie. Call me sometime ok? Bye.” The phone beeped again.
“Whoa…and this is why?” AC asked. She played the message again and tried to analyze the message. Why was Cassie calling? AC heard the door open, so she quickly walked to the stove to look casual.
“Hey, something smells good!” Mike said.
“Yeah, someone’s here. Hello?” Dominic said. “Oh, hey AC!” He said as he and Mike walked into the kitchen.
“Hi Nic.” AC said. “I found some hamburger helper.”
“Smells awesome.” Dominic sniffed.
”Yeah and I’m hungry.” Mike said. “Oh hey, man, you have a message.” He pressed the button.
“Hi, Nic, it’s Cassie. Call me sometime ok? Bye.” Dominic looked at the phone in shock. AC looked at Dominic. Mike looked at Dominic and AC.
“And, that’s my cue. I uh…yeah.” Mike slipped out of the room.
“So what’s that all about?” AC asked.
“Nothing. Actually, I don’t know.” Dominic said.
“You sure?” AC asked.
“Yes. Why are you freaking about this? She’s probably just calling to say she’s getting married or something.” Dominic said. AC looked at Dominic, then laughed.
“I’m sorry Nic. I was being stupid.” She walked up to him and gave him a hug. Mike decided to walk in.
“Awwww…and the problem is quickly solved.” Mike said. “So when’s dinner gonna be ready?”
“Jem, Jem, Jem!” Faith yelled as she ran towards Jem.
“Faith! What’s wrong?” Jem asked as he caught Faith by the waist.
“Let’s elope.” Faith said.
Jem laughed. “What? Are you crazy?”
”No, let’s elope Jem. Go off to the Caribbean, or Hawaii or Fiji and get married.” Faith said.
“Wow! When’d you change your mind?” Jem asked.
“I’ve been thinking about us…a lot. And the more I think about it, the more I want to get married to you soon.”
”How soon?”
”Anytime.” Faith said. “Spring Break?”
“Well, ok, anytime you want.” Jem said. “I’m glad you changed your mind.”
“Yeah…Una talked to me about it. She had a lot to say, considering, she’s extremely quiet.”
”Let’s go get something to eat, and we’ll figure out some dates at home.”
The phone was ringing off the hook. Dominic got up and groaned. It kept ringing. Dominic threw off his blanket and grabbed the phone.
“Hello?” He asked groggily.
“Dominic?”
“AC? What’s up?”
“This is Cassie.” Suddenly, Dominic was fully awake.
“Hey. What’s up?” Dominic said.
“Um, well, I’m in the city…I’m living here now.”
”That’s nice.” Dominic said. “How have you been?”
”Not too good. Oh Dominic, I need to talk to you!” Cassie sounded desperate.
“Um…Okay, where do you want to meet?”
”Our café…the one we always went to when we were in college. Can you meet me there at noon?”
“Sure.” Dominic said. He hung up the phone. “I wonder what that was all about.” He got up and looked at his calendar. “Oh shoot!” He hit his head. “I have a meeting at 11:30!”
Luckily, as he was getting ready for the day, the phone rang.
“Hello?” He said.
“Dominic? This is Mr. James.”
”How are you, sir?” Dominic asked his boss.
“Quite well, I was just calling to say that the meeting is postponed until a later date. The chief editor is out with bronchitis. I’ll let you know when the meeting will be rescheduled.”
”Thank you.” Dominic said. He hung up the phone.
A little later, Dominic walked up the street to the café he and Cassie were meeting. He saw he in their booth.
“Hey Cassie.” Dominic said. Cassie stood up and what Dominic saw surprised him. “Oh, wow…you’re…looking good these days.”

Re: It's a Blythe Wedding!
Cassie burst into tears. “I look awful!” Dominic and Cassie sat down. In between sniffles, Cassie said, “I…I ordered for you, the usual.”
”Oh, thanks.” Dominic said. It was silent for a moment. “So, is that what you had to tell me?”
Cassie sighed. “Well, yeah, I’m pregnant, and then Sam left.”
“Are you two um, married?”
”Well, yeah, a month after we broke off the wedding, Sam and I went and eloped.
“Oh…” Dominic was still in shock she was pregnant. “When are you due?”
“September 1.” Cassie said. “Sam and I had been constantly fighting and so I left.” Cassie’s eyes welled up in tears. “And he doesn’t know I’m pregnant. And I don’t know what to do. My parents don’t even know that I’m pregnant.”
“Cass, you have to tell them!”
”And ruin their reputation? Right. My mother would kill me! And Sam, well, he should have ran after me, but no, no sir, he didn’t. Dominic, you’re my closest friend here…if you still want to be my friend. But I’m just all alone here.” Cassie wiped away her tears.
“Cassie…I’ll always be your friend.” Dominic said. He got up and sat next to her and gave her a hug. She hugged him and cried all the built up tears she had been holding inside for the past 5 months.
AC was walking back to her apartment when she decided to go get something to eat. She walked right past the café.
“Wait.” AC said, “I think I’ll get something from here.” She walked in and went to the line to order. Something caught her eye. She walked back to Cassie and Dominic’s booth and her jaw dropped. Dominic saw her. Oh did AC look mad.
“Ace, it’s not what it—“
”Don’t talk to me right now.” AC said. Dominic stood up and she noticed Cassie’s tummy. “She’s, you’re? Dominic! Is she pregnant with your kid? I thought you had a meeting today?! I can’t believe this!” AC exclaimed. “You know what?” AC ran out of the café before letting Dominic say anything.
“Oh no! Now I went and ruined everything!” Cassie cried.
“No, it’ll be fine…I’ll explain everything to her and…she’ll be fine.” Dominic said.
