Re: It's a Blythe Family!...cont.
“He’s dating Cassie Dawson?!” Anne asked in surprise as she and Gilbert were in their room.
“Anne…”
”No, it’s just awkward that Dominic, our son, is dating Christine’s daughter. Gilbert, don’t tell me you don’t find that strange.”
“Well…”
”Gil! What if they get married! Then we’ll be related!”
”By marriage.” Gilbert added.
“…so if they get married, and they have kids, then…”
”Anne.”
“Our grandkids are their grandkids…”
”Anne.”
“And so we’d have to get together…”
”Anne!”
”What!”
”Calm down!” Gilbert sat Anne down next to him. “Don’t over think this Anne-girl. He’s only 18, almost 19. Sometimes things like this don’t last.”
“Are you saying it won’t?” Anne asked.
“Not at all! I was just saying, he’s still young to think about marriage. That’s all.” Gilbert reassured.
“Cassie, hurry, Dominic will be here any minute.” Lacey called. Cassie was finished with her makeup and hair. She only had one problem.
“Lace, help me out here!” Cassie called frantically. “What do I wear?” Cassie laid out 3 outfits.
“Wear the jeans and that cute pink shirt. Dominic said movie right?”
“And dinner! What if I’m underdressed?”
”Cassie, relax, I’ll call Mike and asked.” Lacey said calmly. “Mike, what’s Dominic wearing…ok thanks.” Turning back to Cassie, Lacey said, “It’s casual, so wear the jeans and the pink shirt.” Cassie quickly changed.
“Aww…you look so cute!” Lacey said. Cassie smiled and thanked her.
Dominic came by a couple minutes later. “Hey Cassie.”
“Hello Nic.” Cassie breathed. Both thought the other was really good looking tonight.

Re: It's a Blythe Family!...cont.
“You ready to go?” Dominic asked.
“Yeah.” Cassie replied.
“Have fun, you two.” Lacey winked.
After dinner, Cassie and Dominic hand in hand walked down the street.
“What movie are we going to see?” Cassie asked
“Well, actually…I pulled a few strings… and I have here 2 Broadway tickets to Wicked.”
“Are you serious!! Oh, Dominic!!” Cassie squealed. “I’ve always wanted to see that!”
“Really? Well, I guess I made a good pick.” Dominic smiled. They made their way to Broadway. Cassie and Dominic found their seats and watched the play. By the time it was over, it was really late. Dominic walked Cassie to her dorm room. Dominic held her hands in his.
“I had a really good time, Dominic.” Cassie said.
“I did too. I hope we can do something like this again.” Dominic replied.
“I would like that.” Cassie whispered. Their faces drew closer to each other.
Lacey flung the door open. “Cassie! I thought—oh!”
“Good night Dominic.” Cassie said.
“Good night Cassie.” Dominic kissed her cheek and left. Cassie walked into the room.
“Cass, I’m sorry!”
”I swear! The night would have had the perfect ending with a good night kiss!” Cassie flopped on the bed.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t know!” Lacey pleaded. “Fudge brownie?”
Cassie sat up and laughed. “Thanks, you do owe me.”
“He’ll kiss you eventually. I’m sorry I ruined it tonight though.”
”It’s ok. It’s just that tonight was wonderful. We went to the little restaurant by the river. Then we went to see Wicked. That’s why I’m back so late. Dominic is so sweet, Lace, He held my hand and was so protective. His eyes are so blue, did you know that? I know its only been the first date, but I’m in love.” Cassie rambled.
“You sure are!” Lacey said. “You have it bad girl.”

Re: It's a Blythe Family!...cont.
“So how was it Nic?” Mike asked Dominic the minute he walked in the door.
“Went great.”
“Great is all you can say?” Mike asked. “Wait…wait…your getting that look!”
”What look?”
“The look that says your in love.” Mike said. Dominic didn’t deny it.
One afternoon, Anne was in the kitchen baking cookies, when the doorbell rang.
“Rilla! Can you get that?” Anne called.
“Dominic!!!” Anne heard Rilla shriek. “Nic’s home!!”
”Nicky!” Di burbled as she ran to the door into Dominic’s arms.
“Hey you!” Dominic said. Anne hurried to the door.
“Dominic Blythe! Your three days early! Why didn’t you call?” Anne said as she gave Dominic a hug.
“Surprised, Mom?”
“Of course! Oh, take off those wet things and warm yourself up.” Anne said, helping him take off his jacket.
“Everyone’s going to be so surprised!” Rilla exclaimed, helping Dominic with his suitcases.
“Where’s everyone?”
“Well, Dad is at work, of course. Jem is with Faith somewhere, and Joy is working at Tim Horton’s.” Rilla replied.
“You should surprise everyone. Like walk in at dinner.” Anne said.
“That would be pretty funny. But what about Di? She’ll probably squeal.”
“Well, somedays we have late dinners, so she’s already asleep.” Rilla said.
Later that night, the Blythe’s sat down to dinner. Everyone was ready to sit down for supper. Anne and Rilla brought out the meal.
As they were about to eat, Jem said, “I think you miscounted Mom. We have six place settings.”
”I didn’t miscount.” Anne said nonchalantly.
“But Di’s asleep.” Joy said.
“And Faith’s not coming over for dinner. Neither is Alex or Natalie or Ken.” Gilbert said.
“I can put it back, Mom.” Joy said starting to get up.
“Hey! I wanna eat with my family too!” A voice said startling them.
“DOMINIC!!!!!!!” Joy scrambled over her chair and tackled him. Jem and Gilbert got up as well and they gave him a hug.
“I can’t believe this, Dominic, we did thought you were going to be coming home Friday!” Joy said.
“I know right! This is awesome!” Jem said.
“It’s really great to have you back, Nic!” Gilbert said. Everyone was full of chatter.
“Oh by the way, The Wright’s are coming up for Christmas.” Anne said. Joy and Rilla started talking excitedly since they were great friends with AC.
”AC…”[i/] Dominic thought. He hadn’t heard that name for a while. When they were younger and even up until highschool, Dominic always had a little crush on AC. ”I wonder…” He shook it off. ”What am I thinking? I have the most amazing girl in the world. Besides, that thing I had for AC was a long time ago.”
I've been sooooooooooo busy lately! Sorry I havent updated!

Re: It's a Blythe Family!...cont.
“Mom! They’re here!” Rilla called. Anne dropped everything she was doing and sped to the front door. Rilla all ready beat her to letting the Wright family in.
“Hey you guys! Come in! Make yourselves at home!”
“Anne, do you need help in the kitchen?” Diana asked, once she took off her jacket.
Knowing that Diana wouldn’t take no for an answer, Anne replied, “Of course! Dominic can help the guys lug your luggage in. Dominic!”
Dominic came running. “Oh hey Aunt Diana and Uncle Fred!” He shook Fred’s hand and hugged Diana. “Hey, man! Good to see you again!” Dominic said to Fred Jr. “Need help with the luggage?”
“Yeah, AC, and Mom brought like 3 suitcases each.” Fred Jr. replied. Dominic made himself turn around to say hello to AC.
”Hey AC. How’s your senior year so far?” Dominic asked. AC looked wonderful. Her long hair curled gently under her hat.
“Surprisingly not as bad as last year.” AC smiled. Dominic’s cell phone started to ring.
“Excuse me. Hey…yah. Oh really? That’s great! Um…well, I kind of forgot to ask, but I’m sure they won’t mind…Seriously! We have about a week and a half until you come. Ok. All right. I’ll talk to ya later. Bye.”

Re: It's a Blythe Family!...cont.
*Big fat post today!*
Dominic got off the phone. “Oh!” Dominic realized everyone went into the family room except AC. “I’m sorry.”
“No it’s ok.”
”Um. Well, let me help you take you bags up. Your staying in Joy’s room. Meg is staying with Rilla. Fred’s with me and Jem and your parents get the guest room.” Dominic carried her bags to the room and AC followed.
“This is going to be interesting.” Dominic thought. “AC, you can settle in. Joy won’t care.”
“Thanks Dominic.”
“That’ll be $3.54.” Joy said to her customer. “Thank you.” The last customer left. Today was slower than normal. Joy was ready to crash.
”Hey Joy, you can go home.” Her boss, Drew, said.
“You sure?”
”Yeah. It’s been a slow day and you really don’t have to stay.”
“Thanks Drew. You’re the best!” Joy said. She went outside to call her dad, but a green truck pulled up.
“Oh gosh.” Joy sighed. “Hey Alex.”
“Hey! I was just gonna come see you. I thought your shift ended at 7.”
”It was pretty slow today, so Drew let me go early.” Joy said.
“I can give you a lift home.”
“No, It’s ok.”
“Come’on Joy.” Alex insisted.
“Fine.” Joy gave in. Instead of driving to the Blythe’s house, Alex drove to the beach. “Why are we here?” Joy was a bit irritated.
“Just come on.” Alex said. He got out of the truck taking something with him. Joy reluctantly followed. Alex laid out a blanket and took out a couple pillows and told Joy to sit.
“We need to talk.” Alex said. Joy looked into Alex’s face. He looked serious.
“Ok.” Joy said unsure of what she was getting herself into.
“Um. There’s no easy way to say this but, my mom got a promotion.” Alex said, then added quickly as he saw Joy’s happy face, “But she’s getting transferred.”
“What? To like Summerside?”
”No.”
“Charlottetown?”
”No.”
“Halifax, St. John, Kingsport?”
“No.”
”Alex, your not going back to Virginia!”
”No we’re staying in Canada.”
”Where at?” Joy asked.
“Victoria.”
“As in…on Vancouver Island?!? On the WEST COAST?!” Joy exclaimed. “No way! No way! No way!” Alex just nodded his head.
“You can’t move! Alex, I can’t believe this! Its going to be our senior year and stuff!”
“Joy, you know ever since my dad died money’s been a bit tight. I’ve been saving money for this truck since I was like 12 and I have to work to pay for stuff. Joy, you have no idea how blessed you are. You have two wonderful parents, four siblings…this job means everything to my mom and it’ll pay her a lot better. I can’t be selfish and ask her to give it up just so I can finish highschool here.”
“When are you leaving?”
“Two weeks.”
“Seriously?” Joy asked. She blinked constantly to hold the tears back. She couldn’t believe one of her best friends was moving across the country.
“Yeah.” Alex answered looking into the stars. He wanted to say, “I love you! You are my everything.” But it was definitely not the right time. The two of them were silent. Alex looked up into the sky. Joy looked at him. Since the time they met up til this time, Alex had really grown. His brown eyes sparkled and his brown hair ruffled in the breeze.
“Alex, you’ll always be my best friend.” Joy whispered.
“Mom!” Dominic called.
“In here!” Anne called. Anne was still busy in the kitchen. Diana slipped out for a moment and the rest of the Wrights were watching a movie.
“Mom? Can a friend from college come over and spend the night for a couple days before we go back to college?”
”Who, and when?”
”Cassie and next week. Just for three days. She’ll be getting here December 30th-Jan 1st and we’ll leave Jan 2nd. I really want to take her to the New Year’s Gala.”
Anne’s brow furrowed. “Well…”
“Mom, I know what your thinking. She can bunk with Joy.”
“That’s not what I was thinking. Trust me Dominic, we, as in your Dad and I, trust your morals, it’s just that with the Wright’s staying with us, I’m just not sure…”
”Please Mom?”
“I’ll think about it and talk to your Dad about it.” Anne promised. Dominic shot her a grateful smile. As he left, Diana walked back in the room.
“What was that all about? I’ve never seen him so happy before.” Diana remarked. Anne explained to her the situation.
“Well, if your worried about us, we won’t mind. It’s just a friend of Dominic.” Diana said.
“Well, it’s just not that. When we would go to Avonlea, Dominic and AC always seemed to have a thing for eachother. Of course, neither one was bold enough to say anything.” Anne said in hushed tones.
”Yeah, I know what you mean. AC would get all excited before you guys came, and after she would be so sad, yet so starry eyed.”
“Well, as Marilla would say, ‘Whatever happens, happens’.”
“I guess your right.”
The kitchen door opened and was slammed shut. Joy walked in and was about to bound up the stairs to her room.
“Hey…whoa…whoa…hold it!” Anne commanded. Joy stopped and turned around.
“Joyce Blythe! It is at least 20 degrees outside and all your wearing is a hoodie?!” Anne asked. “You can catch your death--!”
”Mom, I really don’t want to hear a lecture right now. I’ll wear my varsity jacket next time I go out. Can I just go to my room?” Joy asked trying to steady her voice. Anne was about to say no, but she realized something was wrong. Joy was normally happy to see Diana, but today she didn’t even take notice of her.
“I’ll just go see what everyone else is doing.” Diana said quietly as she slipped out.
“What’s wrong?” Anne asked. Joy sat down at the table. She couldn’t say anything.
“Are you hurt?” Anne asked in alarm. Joy shook her head as she sniffled. Tears ran down Joy’s face.
“Did someone say something mean? Did someone die?”
”No.”
“What then?”
“My best friend is moving across the country to Vancouver because his mom got an awesome job offer and it would help them out financially.” Joy hiccupped out.
“Oh Joy…I’m sorry.” Anne gave her a hug.
“Can I go to my room now?”
“Of course. You know, anytime you need me, I’m here.” Joy nodded and thanked Anne. Joy bounded up the stairs to her room. She reached up and removed her mom’s book, ‘Kindred Spirits’ from her bookcase. As she took the book down a picture fell out of the book. It was a picture of Joy and Alex when they were in 7th grade. Joy couldn’t help but laugh. Oh how goofy they looked in middle school.
“Friends forever.” Joy said. “Always.”
Anne and Gilbert decided that Cassie could come visit for a couple days. Dominic was more than elated. The Blythe Househould was more than busy. It was hectic! Anne was relieved when Christmas was finally here. At 8 o clock everyone gathered around the tree and opened presents and sang Chrsitmas songs.
“A new dolly! Thank you Mommy and Dad!” Megan squealed.
“Oh I love my new clothes. Thanks Aunt Diana and Uncle Fred!” Rilla exclaimed. Everyone was sqealing and thanking everyone. Finally, Gilbert took out an envelope and handed it to Anne.
“Merry Christmas, Carrots.” Gilbert winked. Anne was about to rip it open when Gilbert stopped her.
“Wait, Fred, don’t you want to…”
”Oh yeah.” Fred gave Diana a similar envelope.
“Ok you too.” Gilbert smiled.
Anne ripped open the envelope and took out 2 plane tickets. Diana and Anne’s eyes grew as big as saucers.
“What is it?! What is it?” Megan bounced.
“Hawaii?!?!” Anne exclaimed. “Gilbert Blythe, you didn’t!!”
“Fred Wright!”
The boys looked guilty at eachother.
”I did.”
“Me too.”
”Oh your crazy!” Anne laughed.
“Well, if you don’t want those tickets, I’ll take em.” Jem took the tickets out of Anne’s hands, but she quickly snatched them back.
“Absolutly not, Jem. Of course we’re going to Hawaii!!”
“Fred, I still can’t believe you! Thank you!” Diana exclaimed. Both ladies kissed their husbands.
“Awwww…” Everyone sighed.
“We can’t go?” Joy asked.
“Nope. You kids are old enough to run the house for a week.” Gilbert winked.
“All right!” Everyone cheered.

Re: It's a Blythe Family!...cont.
A little later that afternoon, Ken Ford knocked on the Blythe’s door.
“Gil! Can you get that?”
”Can’t. Dominic?”
”Sorry Dad. Joy! Door!”
”Why do I have to get it?! I’m upstairs.”
”Cuz it’s probably Alex.” AC called.
Outside, Ken laughed. He was starting to freeze, so he knocked on the door again.
“Jem? Door!”
“Rilla! Door!”
“Good grief!” Rilla muttered. “It’s so hard to open the door.” Rilla flung the door open. Her face brightened. “Hey! Come in!”
“Having a little trouble in here? Or maybe no one likes me here.” Ken teased.
“Oh I’m sorry Ken! It’s pretty crazy here.” Rilla said apologetically. “You here to see Jem?”
”No. I’m here to see you. Oh and to tell your mom that my mom is bringing the rolls and dessert.”
“Oh.”
”Hey Ken!” Dominic said. “How’s it going?”
”It’s pretty good. How are you?” Ken asked.
“Not too shabby.”
”Nic, tell Mom, Aunt Leslie’s bringing rolls and dessert please.” Rilla asked. Dominic left.
“So why do you want to talk to me?” Rilla asked.
“Well—“
“Come on Di!” Megan and Diana ran around the room.
“Girls, not in here! Go to the den or something.” Rilla asked. “Sorry, what were you…”
“No way! I’m not wearing purple! I don’t even look good in purple!” Jem said on the phone. “Faith, why can’t I wear black or blue. Even green. Purple? Can’t you change your---ok bad idea. Faith…” Jem walked out of the room.
Rilla was getting frustrated. Some days she wished her family wasn’t all over the place.
“Why don’t we go to the office.” Rilla said as they walked down the hall. She opened the door.
“Dad!”
”Hey Rilla and Ken! You two need anything?”
”Just a quiet place.” Rilla replied a bit annoyed.
“Did you try the game room downstairs?”
“Thanks Dad.” Rilla and Ken went downstairs. “Finally, peace and quiet!”
“Sometimes, I wish my family was as crazy as yours. It can get kinda boring with just me and Persis.” Ken said. Rilla laughed. “Anyways, what I wanted to talk to you about…well, we’ve been pretty good friends for a while. And for a while, I’ve really started to like you.”
Rilla’s heart beat faster.
Ken continued. “Your not just a pal or a chum like Lana. Kinda, something, more. Your really sweet and sparkly. It turns a guy on you know. So I guess I’m trying to say, will you go out with me?”
“I like you too Ken. I have for a long time.”
”Really?”
”Yeah, since I was like 4.” Rilla giggled.
“I’m guessing that’s a yes, that you’ll be my girlfriend?”
“Yeth.”

Re: It's a Blythe Family!...cont.
“Mom! Cassie’s plane will be here in about an hour! Is everything clean and stuff? Does she have a cot in Joy’s room?” Dominic was freaking out.
“Yes! Calm down!” Anne laughed. “You can leave to pick her up.” Dominic ran out the door but then came back in.
“Forgot my keys.” Dominic mumbled.
Gilbert guffawed. “He’s definitely in love.”
“So who’s Cassie?” AC asked.
“Well…she’s a really nice girl from Halifax. Her mom dated my dad when they were younger. I think they almost even got engaged or they were engaged or something.” Rilla said.
“So why’s she coming here?” AC asked.
“You don’t know?” Joy asked a bit shocked. “You mean Dominic didn’t tell you that…”
“Ooohhhh…” Rilla said.
“What?” AC asked. “It cant be that bad.”
“Welll…Cassie is Dominic’s girlfriend. They met in New York.” Joy said plainly.
AC’s face fell a little.
“Yeah. I’m sorry AC.”
AC put on a face. “Well, I can’t say anything because we never revealed our feelings for eachother. Mild flirting, yeah, but I mean, that was when we were younger. It’s ok.”
“You sure?” Rilla asked.
‘Yeah! Definitely.” AC said. The girls talked in Joy’s room for the next hour. They heard the door open and a male and female voice.
“They’re here.” Rilla said. The girls bounded down the stairs.
“Hey girls. Cassie, you already know Joy and Rilla. This is our good friend AC. Our moms are best friends.”
“Hi! It’s so nice to meet you!” Cassie smiled.
“Like wise.” AC smiled.
“Well, come on, and I’ll introduce you to everyone else.” Dominic said as he took her hand and led her into the family room.
The next day everyone was running around the house getting ready for the New Years Eve Gala. Finally everyone was ready to go. The Blythes took the Diana, Fred, Megan and Di. Fred drove Joy, AC, Rilla and Jem. Dominic drove Cassie.
They drove to the Banquet Hall by the Marina.
“Ooh…doesn’t all the lights look lovely with all the glistening snow and the harbor?” AC asked. Everyone agreed. They went inside and everyone oohed, In the vestibule was a huge Christmas tree. The hall was beautifully decorated with red and green. Anne and Diana brought Di and Megan to the Children’s Party before joining their husbands. Jem went to wait for Faith. As everyone else went into the hall, Ken approached Rilla.
“Wow, you look wonderful.” Ken said. Rilla was wearing a forest green dress that flowed to the floor. Every time she moved it sparkled. Ken couldn’t keep is eyes off her.
The Merediths walked in.
”Hello Mr. Meredith and Mrs. Meredith? How are you all?”
“We’re doing well. Thanks for asking Jem.” John said. “Keep my girl safe.”
“I will.” Jem promised.
“Have a lovely time.” Rosemary winked. Una, Carl and Jerry met up with AC, Fred, and Joy.
Like Ken, Jem was in awe of Faith. Her blond hair was swept up in an updo. She wore a White ****tail dress with flowered black lace on top of it.
“Say something, Jem.” Faith said.
“I… wow…you look amazing.”
“And you don’t look to shabby yourself. I love the tie.” Faith smiled. Jem chuckled. He was wearing a tie with Frosty the Snowman on it. Anne and Gilbert tried to talk him out of wearing it, but Jem wouldn’t hear of it.
“Miss Faith Anne Meredith, may I escort you into the hall?”
“I would be delighted, Mr. James Matthew Blythe.” Jem linked arms with her as they walked into the hall.”
“Dominic and Cassie, Jem and Faith, Rilla and Ken, Mom and Dad, Aunt Diana and Uncle Fred, Mr. and Mrs. Meredith, Aunt Leslie and Uncle Owen…this is depressing.” Joy sighed.
“Your telling me. At least Carl’s having fun with his buddies and Una’s over with her friends in the back corner giggling. Even Fred is dancing with Natalie.” AC said. “We’re all by ourself.”
“Hey AC, wanna take a spin around the dance floor?” Jerry asked. Joy groaned. “What? I’m sorry Joy, I’ll dance with you next.”
“No, its ok.”
“I’m sorry Joy. I won’t dance if you don’t want me too.”
“No! No, go ahead AC! Have fun.” Joy tried smiling. AC and Jerry apologetically left.
While Dominic was dancing with Cassie he couldn’t help but notice two things. AC and Jerry dancing and Joy all by herself, looking miserable.
“….and so when I finally decided to get the dress, it was on ****. Dominic, are you listening to me?”
”Huh? Oh! Sorry Cassie, I was just thinking about my sister. She looks so miserable.”
”What’s wrong?” Cassie asked. Dominic took the next couple minutes explaining to Cassie about his speculation about Joy and Alex.
“So her boyfriend is moving across the country? Awww…that’s so sad!” Cassie sighed.
“Well, they aren’t exactly together. They are just friends. She is so in denial.”
Joy couldn’t stand being in there a second longer. She took her jacket and went outside and walked onto the patio deck.
“Everything’s changing. Why cant things just stay the same?” Joy asked out loud.
“We all change. It’s inevitable.” Joy turned around. Alex walked toward her. “Hi.”
“Hi.” Joy didn’t really know what to say.
“I’m sorry about my sudden announcement.” Alex said. Joy shook her head.
“No, your helping out your mom, and that’s what counts, even if you’ll be across the country.”
“I’ll really miss you.” Joy said. “Great. Now, I’m gonna start bawling.”
“Don’t, please. Then I’ll start bawling.” Alex joked. “Come on, its cold out her, lets go dance or something.” The two went inside. They saw everyone dancing together.
“Whoa…Ken and Rilla? When’d that happen?”
”Christmas. It’s about time, they’ve been in love since they were like born.” Joy said. “I don’t know how two people can like eachother for like 10 hundred years.”
”Like the way I feel about you?” Alex murmured.
“Huh?”
”Oh, I said, that’s what I think too.” Alex lied.
Dominic and Cassie were having a good time dancing. Jerry and AC came up to them.
“Nic, may I ask if I can take Cassie for a spin.”
“Of course.” Cassie flashed a smile at Nic before dancing with Jerry.
“May I have this dance?” Dominic bowed. AC curtsied before they started dancing.
“So…” AC said.
“Have you applied for college yet?”
“Actually, I have. UPEI, McMaster, and Victoria.”
“Cool.” Dominic and AC danced quietly. AC couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” AC asked quietly.
“What?”
“Why didn’t you tell me, you had a girlfriend?”
“I don’t know.” Dominic replied. “I didn’t know you would have cared so much.”
”I don’t.” AC denied quickly. “But we used to be able to talk about anything.”
“Yeah…I just didn’t…I thought…I guess I didn’t think…”
“It’s ok, Dominic. It was a dumb question anyways.” AC said. Dominic shook his head then quickly changed the subject.
“Wow, look at Ken and Rilla.”
“Ken and Rilla look smitten with eachother.” AC noticed. “They are so getting to get married one day.”
“Yeah. They’ve been in love for ever.” Dominic rolled their eyes.
